Everyone, at some point of his or her life, has dreamed of being somebody special, somebody big…to have peak personal performance.

  • Who hasn’t fantasized about being the one who hits the game-winning homer?
  • Who hasn’t dreamed of being the homecoming queen?
  • And how many times have we dreamed of being rich, or successful, or happy with our relationships?

Often, we dream big dreams and have great aspirations. Unfortunately, our dreams remain just that – dreams. And our aspirations are put on the shelf only to collect dust.

This is the sad truth for many lives.

Instead of using their mental strength to experience exciting adventures and self actualization, far too many get caught up in the humdrum of living from day-to-day just barely existing.

You know what?

Life can be better…so much better, if only we took on the warrior mindset and learned to aim higher.

There’s a saying I just love – “Shoot for the eagle, you bag the pheasant and you don’t eat crow.”  This means aim high, and so what if you only get half way to your goal.  You’re still further along then if you did nothing!  Just set a new goal and keep moving.

Unfortunately when it comes to goals and goal setting the 5 most deadly words spoken are “I don’t think I can. Most people get hung up thinking they can’t do this…it’s too hard…if only…or a myriad of other convenient excuses.

The shocking truth is that these excuses are the affect of limiting beliefs.  If you take any excuse for why you don’t have what you want and dig deep…I mean really dig deep…you’ll find a limiting belief at its core.  We trick ourselves into thinking that this fact and knowledge based on past experience, but all that’s happening is we’re living a life of self-fulfilling prophesy’s.

Albert Einstein said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge.”

Think about what this world would be like if there was no imagination!

Everything you see…I mean everything started with a thought, an idea, a dream created through the act of imagination.

Imagination is great and wonderful.  But one challenge with imagination (and dreams) are that some people dream SO big that they get paralyzed by not know where to begin.

The result?

Broken dreams…tattered aspirations and thoughts of “What’s the use.”

If you limit yourself with doubt, and disempowering assumptions, you will never be able to break past what you perceive as impossible. If you reach too far without a step by step plan for working towards your goal, you will find yourself clinging on to an impossible dream.

Try this exercise.

Take a piece of paper and make three columns. Label the first header ‘Things I Know I Can Do.’ Under the second header label it ‘Things I Think I Can Do.’ And then label the third column ‘Things I Hope I Can Do.’ Now write down your life goals under each heading according to the perceived difficulty of the goal.

Look at the list and commit every day to accomplishing the goals that are under things ‘Things I Know I Can Do.’ Check them off when accomplish them. After accomplishing 5 to 7 goals move to the next column of goals – ‘Things I Think I Can Do.’

By this time you will have built up some momentum and as you’re able to check these off you’ll develop a warrior mindset and feel your confidence building up. Then an amazing shift will happen…you’ll look at the ‘Things I Hope I Can Do’ list and move some of them to the ‘Things I Think I Can Do’ list.  Then you’ll move some of the ‘Things I Think I Can Do’ to the ‘Things I Know I Can Do’ list.

As you repeat this process your mental strength will increase and you’ll find out that the goals you thought were impossible become easier to accomplish. And before you know it….you’ll be accomplishing goals you once thought you could never do!

You see, this mind power technique is only limited by your ‘knowledge’ and not your imagination. This techniques will train you to aim high (shoot for the eagle), and start working towards that goal little by little (bag the pheasant) and you’ll not have to settle for mediocrity (eat crow).

Thomas Edison once said that genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. Nothing could be truer. For one to accomplish peak personal performance there has to be mind training and the development the mental strength.

This work and discipline will lead to the accomplishment of your goals. But take note that that 1% has to be a think-big dream, and not some easily accomplished one.

Ask any gym rat and he or she will tell you that there can be no gains unless you get out of your comfort zone. Remember the saying, “No pain…No gain”? That is as true for any part of life.

So dream on, friend! Don’t get caught up with your perceived limitations. Think big and work hard to attain those dreams. As you step up the ladder of progress, you will just about find out that the impossible has just become a little bit more possible.

  1. Very well said Maeldon! You make a lot of great points! And I would add that there is no real failures…only feedback. Thanks for taking the time to read and post, I appreciate it.

  2. “There’s a saying I just love – “Shoot for the eagle, you bag the pheasant and you don’t eat crow.” This means aim high, and so what if you only get half way to your goal. You’re still further along then if you did nothing! Just set a new goal and keep moving.”

I think that this is the most neglected piece of reality in personal development literature. Coming up short DOES HAPPEN and it happens regularly whether or not one dreams big,,, chants affirmations…. or follows well defined actions towards goals.

However it is also true that if you “put yourself in a stream of activity” you will make progress …. and progress is part of the process of living …. Even if you fail, “living an active life” directed towards great things is really the goal. Let go of the results (goal) focus on the journey (life).

Not every athlete becomes a pro… all love the participation in sport
Not every patient survives cancer…. many laugh in the face of death….. don’t EVER blame their death on lack of positive thinking
Not every parent produces star children…… but most love unconditionally ….. stars or not

    All the best….
