Achieving peak personal performance and creating personal power begins with a mental strength mindset and
empowering beliefs. Reaching your personal goals starts in the mind and finishes with peak performance…taking massive action.
This is one in a series of mental strength life coaching tips to help start your week of strong so that you can reach your personal goals and personal success.
I take one subject and run though a brief overview of it, then ask some very direct questions. The intention of this virtual ‘life coaching’ session is for you to write the questions in your success journal and then reflect on them and write your answers and thoughts in your journal.
These series of posts are for YOU! If I’m not able to coach you personally one-on-one over the phone or in The 2nd Passage, I want you to at least get the benefit of a “virtual” mental strength coaching session.
Objective of this Mental Strength Tip:
To help you build the belief that it is necessary to take risks to achieve personal success. Taking risk requires mental strength and bravery; and that, just like mental strength, bravery can be developed over time
Let’s Get Started:
Brave: “Having or displaying courage, resolution, or daring; not cowardly or timid” What role you believe bravery plays in your life? Do you have a sense for what you think about bravery, and what you believe it will take to reach your personal goals and personal success? Here’s what James Robinson says about bravery. “Greatness, in the last analysis, is largely bravery – courage in escaping from old ideas and old standards and respectable ways of doing things.”
Questions to Uncover Beliefs about Mental Strength Thinking:
- How important is bravery in manifesting your personal goals and personal success?
- Do you believe bravery can be learned and developed?
- What does it mean to you to be brave in business?
- In your personal life?
- Can you think of any examples of business bravery?
Unsupportive Beliefs about Bravery
- Bravery is for war heroes.
- Bravery means putting yourself in physical danger.
- Bravery is something you’re born with.
- Bravery is only in the movies.
Mental Strength Beliefs about Bravery
- Bravery is a state of mind that can be cultivated with the use of mental strength.
- Bravery means pushing toward personal goals in spite of fear.
- Bravery is a decision to move closer to personal success.
Outrageous Questions:
- In your professional life, on a scale of 1-9, 9 being bravest, how brave are you on a daily basis?
- What are you doing regularly to increase your bravery scale and tolerance for risk?
- Are you braver in your personal life this year then last year?
- How do you know?
Reflective Questions:
- What action steps can you take to become braver in your personal and professional life over the next 90 days?
- Are you playing “not to lose” instead of playing to win in your professional life?
- What’s the worst thing that could happen is you became braver and tool more risks?
Mental Strength Coaching:
Move slowly with this one if you’re not being helped by a coach. Keep in mind that most people have never been challenged about their level of bravery.
For generations, men have been trained to associate their self-worth with their level of bravery. It’s easy to arouse an illogical, emotional and defense response from your ego if you move too fast.
Your goal think, act and evolve intellectually, but it doesn’t need to happen overnight. Be patient and aware of the role the ego plays around bravery.
If you’d like to get really inspired on the subject of bravery, watch “127 Hours”….this exemplifies bravery! Or “Fair Game”, this demonstrates bravery in a completely different context.
Final Thought
Embracing bravery consciously, for perhaps the first time, is like handling a sharp sword; move confidently yet carefully allowing yourself to grow through the process. Keeping your ego at bay is the secret to clear and rational mental strength thinking that will result in bravery and personal success.
