This Warrior Mind Podcast is based on the post “Role Models for Personal Success”role models

Preregistration is open for the Warrior Mind Intensive!  Go here for more information Develop the Mental Strength of a Warrior Intensive.

The purpose of this Warrior Mind Podcast is to help you understand the power role models can have in facilitating your way to reaching your personal goals and achieving personal success.

An important key foundation in Neuro-linguistic Programming is modeling. To model, you emulate those who have already achieved success. You observe, analyze and then replicate the factors that contributed to the outstanding performance, hopefully you use several role models.

While there is no 100% guarantee that you can reap the same results, modeling helps you shorten your learning curve. You learn to avoid common mistakes and apply the essential steps and strategies that have helped your role model succeed. The idea is that it is much easier to follow a previously proven path to success.

A role model is a person whose behavior, example, or success is or can be emulated by others, especially by younger people.

The term “role model” is credited to sociologist Robert K. Merton, who coined the phrase during his career.

Merton hypothesized that individuals compare themselves with reference groups of people who occupy the social role to which the individual aspires.

An example being the way fans (oftentimes youth) will idolize and imitate professional athletes or entertainment artists. Although the term “role model” has been criticized as “outdated”, the term and its associated responsibility remains prominent in the public consciousness as a commonly used phrase, and a “powerful presence” in the entertainment industry and media.

As Annie Murphy Paul says “If a role model relationship is to help you think and act more intelligently, you’ll have to choose the right person to emulate—and as is so often the case, science has some surprising and counter-intuitive insights to contribute here. The right role model may not be the brightest light in your field, but rather someone more humanly flawed.”
