Live With Courage: Warrior Mind Podcast #287

Over four years and going strong!  With over 300,000 downloads from over 9 countries and 5 continents’…. this islive with courage the Warrior Mind Podcast.

In this episode of the Warrior Mind Podcast I discuss what courage is, how to live with courage and what stops us from accomplishing great things.

The best way to overcome the fear in your life is to develop courage. If you are able to conquer the fear that has dominated your life, then you are no longer defined by these items. More importantly, as you live with courage, more doors open to you.

The thing to remember is that while many believe that courage is something you are born with, it is not. Instead, it is something you learn over time. So those who live with courage have experiences that allowed them to form it.

Just keep in mind that courage doesn’t automatically make you a hero. People who are as ordinary as you and I have it, and there are times when it becomes powerful enough we can do the impossible. We can overcome those physical and psychological barriers in front of us.

What then is courage?

Courage itself is both the emotional and mental preparedness and the ability to deal with challenging, difficult, and otherwise impossible circumstances. These are the skills we have in place that allow us to take on the challenges of life. It allows us to confront danger, pain, and fear, and to overcome the threats before us.

Why should we aspire to live with courage?

As we develop courage and learn to live with courage, we empower ourselves to confront our problems head on. We have the skills we need to get through challenges, and we ultimately strengthen our psychological muscle. This allows us to build up strength and resilience. For many of us, this proves to be one of the most powerful assets we can have.

develop the mental strength of a warrior

As we build on our courage, we find ways to become happier, and more productive, leading to productive lives. Courage is a way that we can take responsibility over our mind and ensure that our circumstances and wellbeing are taking into account.

Maxwell Maltz who penned Psycho-Cybernetics offers, “We must have courage to bet on our ideas, to take the calculated risk, and to act. Everyday living requires courage if life is to be effective and bring happiness”.

How to Develop And Live With Courage:

To live with courage, we must understand and acknowledge that this does not mean we have no fear. Even the most courageous person experiences fear at some point. Take this quote from the legendary John Wayne: “Courage is being scared to death — and saddling up anyway”.

If you talk to a soldier who has gone into battle, you will note that all feel fear and uncertainty before they head out.

But you must be willing to do what is necessary. You need to have the desire to acquire the habit and character trait. When you do, you have this inner desire that when combined with the embracement of fear, leads to you positioning yourself to go beyond the vulnerability and to achieve greatness.

When you want to live with courage, you need to do all you can to discover it. You must read books, review the news, and watch movies that deal with this important trait. As you begin to experience the courageous acts of others, you begin to understand how to incorporate it into your life. One of my favorite works is Don Quixote, an incredible piece written by Miguel de Cervantes. In it, we find that our hero Don Quixote is ill equipped, but still sets out to be courageous. Despite facing ridicule and resistance, he still rises to the occasion.

“One man scorned and covered with scars still strove with his last ounce of courage to reach the unreachable stars; and the world was better for this”. Don Quixote, de la Mancha

Other examples to consider include those from September 11. Many people experienced courage and bravery on that dark day. These were regular people who filled the roles of firefighters, police, and others who rose against all odds and still helped people when danger surrounded them.

That doesn’t mean you need to have a gigantic heroic act to have courage. Do something small within your comfort zone. Ask that person who you are attracted to for some coffee, or whatever you drink. Yes, it will scare you at first. But you’ll find that after you do so, you’ll have more courage in the future to speak up and ask for the things that you want.

Over time, you’ll find that you develop both courage and faith. It will be with that you can face other aspects of your life that you never dreamed possible. All it takes to start is to live with courage, introduce faith into your life and embrace self-confidence and the art of positive thinking.
