Carol Jung, Joseph Campbell and others talks about using symbols and mythology as a way to tap into specific personal successarchetypal energy that inside of all of us.

These archetypes and symbols represent our inner potential.  When we are able to access and use these inner potentials wonderful results will show.

We will achieve our personal goals, reach personal success and live a life of power, purpose, passion and perseverance.    Stories, metaphors and analogies are some of the best tools for shifting a perspective, changing beliefs and creating a new behavior.

The animal world is packed-full of great mythic symbols that can help use in our daily lives.  And there is no better animal that embodies mental strength and the spirit of the warrior then the rhinoceros!

Last week we started our journey of what it’s like be a rhino and how acting like a rhino will almost ensure the attainment of personal success.

 We’ll continue the adventure today…

Where Does A Rhino Get Its Energy?

What exactly is it that turns a lazy, contented, do-nothing cow into an energetic, powerful, determined charging rhinoceros?

There must be something responsible for the transformation; something that possibly we can isolate, analyze and use to our advantage.  I’m mean really…what would cause a rhinoceros to charge, sometimes against seemingly insurmountable difficulties?

And what keeps the rhino charging?

Why doesn’t he quit raising a ruckus in the jungle and relax in the quiet pasture as a cow?  What is it that drives him?

There is no such thing as perpetual energy, there has to be a “cause” for this endless supply of energy.  Something must supply the power that makes him continue to charge day after day.  It seems to be self-generating.  It never runs down.  What causes such great motivation?

If you’re truly are a rhino, you’ll figure it out!

To assist in figuring this out, just in case the answer escapes you for now, being a rhinoceros would mean that you are after something.

Let me ask you, what is a cow after…apparently not much right?

Here’s the question…

Why aren’t the cows going after anything?

After all they have brains.  They have legs to move around.  They have eyes to see and ears to hear and some even have horns, just like a rhino.

So why can’t they see all the possibilities in front of them?  We can almost get a sense that they’re waiting for something.  Perhaps they’re waiting for the government to take care of them.  Maybe they’re waiting for a raise at work simply because they’ve been employed for a certain amount of time.  Or maybe they’re waiting to hit the lottery.

All the cow does is wait and wait and wait.  Can’t they see all that there is to do in life…all there is to experience, all the places to see?

What is it you have that a rhino doesn’t?

Belief in Personal success!

That’s right!  Belief! Cows just don’t believe they can achieve personal success and consequently they don’t even try.  They don’t even give it one could charge!  They see all the opportunities floating by them, but believe personal success is for the lucky few ‘hand-picked” picked rhinos.

They believe that personal success is for someone else, not them.

If you’re quite you can hear them mooing “We’re only simple cows. We cannot charge.  There is no use in even trying.  We’ll just wait here to be slaughtered”

Cows will tell you that they are being realistic.  But a rhino knows the truth.  The cows are either plain ignorant, lazy, or they are just trying to rationalize their failure.

Personal success is Yours!

Personal success is there are for anyone who will get off your butt and charge it down!  You know that, don’t you?

That’s what makes a rhinoceros.  They know and truly believe that whatever they want, by taking action and charging that chances are excellent they will get it.  They imagine it as being theirs.

They can taste the victory of achieving it.  It’s a rhino unstoppable belief that runs their motor.  It’s their belief that fills them with an enthusiasm to charge, despite the torpedoes.

Their enthusiasm electrifies themselves and makes them come alive.  That is what prompts them to jump out of bed early every morning.

You are this charging rhinoceros overflowing enthusiasm generated by your beliefs: your beliefs that you can do it all and see it all.

This is what makes being a rhinoceros so enjoyable and that’s why rhinos are fun to be around.

Rhinos are Naturally High

Rhinoceroses have a natural zest for living.  They are so high on life that you will rarely find a rhino with the drugs or drinking problem.  They don’t need artificial stimulants because they produce it themselves, naturally.

In fact, researcher supports this.  Biochemists have discovered the existence of endorphins, a morphine like substance secreted by the brain.

Numerous scientists and doctors described that these natural opiates depress pain and seemed to expand or awareness of pleasure.  Research has uncovered the “runners high” in that jogging seems bring on the secretion of endorphins.

This is why rhinos love to charge and feel so good about life.  Their brains are literally flooded with antidepressants.

So keep believing.  Keep charging.  Imagine yourself reaching your goals.  You know you can do it because you are a rhinoceros!

Your enthusiasm will keep you charging.

Charge!

Charge!

Charge!

If your batteries ever seem to wear down, you will know what happened.  Your beliefs will have waned.

Keep believing in yourself and your vision.

You have to.

No one else can do it for you.  It has come from inside you.  Believe and succeed!

Until next time…enjoy your week and keep charging!

We’ve all heard time and again that “Attitude is everything”.personal success

In this life, we play two games, the inner game of mental causes and an outer game of physical effects. The inner game consists of the thoughts, feelings and emotions that we have; our values, attitudes and beliefs.

The outer game is the effect of the thoughts, feelings and emotions. It’s the work we do, the actions we take and the way we present ourselves to the world.

The outer game of our results…our physical manifestation, is the game we show the world, but the inner game is the most important facet of our personal success.

The people who succeed in this life are the people who:

  • Know they can
  • Know they will
  • And act ‘as if’

Take a look at your favorite athlete. The ones that win both games are the ones that have that unshakeable belief that they will win.

Call it confidence, call it arrogance but the athletes with the winning edge all have that attitude. They have their inner game under control and it’s manifested in their outer game, even though some may do it unconsciously.

When you approach your task…your mission, with unstoppable confidence, unshakeable beliefs and unflinching determination to succeed that is exactly what you do.

You will succeed!

When you say it the way you want it…you get it.

When you approach your task with doubt, worries and uncertainty that is exactly what you create…doubt, worries, and uncertainty…not success. If you are to create the personal success you are looking for, you must first pay attention to your inner game…your mental strength.

You must develop align your values and beliefs with your thoughts.  This will create the unstoppable confidence, unshakeable beliefs and unflinching determination that will give you the winning edge.

So how do you go about winning at the inner game?

You need to study success.

Success leaves clues.

All you have to do is model it.

Learn all that you can about you’re your discipline. Find someone who is successful at what you want to do and read all about how they did it.  WARNING:  Many people make the mistake of following EVERYTHING about their role model.

In many cases this can lead to destruction.  Model only the behaviors and habits that support you in your goals and dreams and leave the rest alone.

In addition to modeling conduct research on your own. Knowing all of the ins and outs of your game can do wonders for your confidence. You need to set goals. Having a target to shoot for keeps you going when times are not easy.

You’ll need to develop the mental strength by keeping your thoughts and beliefs in harmony with your goal.

One method is affirmations.  Affirmations can help with this but only if you put emotions into your affirmations. When you are working with affirmations repetition is necessary too. You can’t just say it once or twice and expect it to sink into your subconscious mind. A good affirmation bears repeating again and again and again.

Another method is visualization. See your success in your mind’s eye and include ALL your senses. See it, hear it, smell it, touch it and taste it. In other words, engage your senses in your imagination as you visualize. The more senses you engage the more real it becomes. The more real it becomes the closer it is to manifesting in your real life. So daydream. Visualize. Imagine your success down to the most intricate detail. This is your creation.

One more powerful way to develop your mental strength is constantly move outside your comfort zone.  We all have comfort zones for each area of our lives, i.e. relationships, business, fitness.  Start with one area that’s easy for you, say relationships.  Make it a habit to meet one new person a day.  You don’t have to become lifelong friends, just meet someone new.

Then notice how you felt and what did you want to do before you met the person. The notice how you feel and what you did do after you met the person.  Now simply apply this success formula to the other areas of your life.

This is your life….your manifestation. This is your Success and only yours. You have the responsibility to develop your own mental strength.  This will build your inner game of attitude and you will come out a winner.

Welcome back to Intent, Behaviors And Personal Success this is Part 2.

We finished last week with the thought of now having the intent of always being right, not in a ‘wrong vs. right’ way, but in a correct and supportive way. Every thing that you do will be designed to create this intent. Your actions will reinforce it. Your motivation will be to achieve it. Your intent becomes your personal goal, it becomes your focus. Every behavior you carry out will be to reinforce this intent and thus getting you closer to your personal success.

Today I’m going to finish up this topic by digging a bit deeper to find out your intent to help you reach your personal goals and achieve personal success.

Unlocking Your Intent

To know your intent you need to ask yourself:

  • What is the reason why I am doing this?
  • What do I believe about myself, in relation to this situation?

By knowing your intent you can then modify your behaviors. By knowing your intent you can articulate it to others. Knowing your intent allows you to decide what behaviors will reinforce it so that you will achieve your personal success. Making your intent very powerful and successful will assist you in reaching your personal goals.

If you know your intent and you like it then celebrate this!

Not Unlocking Your Intent

You can choose to know your intent or you can choose to ignore it. However just because you’re not aware of it doesn’t mean you don’t have one.  Your intent won’t go away.

To ignore your intent is to resign yourself to a life of disempowerment, conflict and difficult relationships. Ignoring your intent is like ignoring your personal goals.

Not being aware of your intent IS your intent.

Sometimes you may avoid knowing your intent because of fear of what you might learn about yourself. This fear is so much less than the feeling of disempowerment. If your intent is not to know about your drivers and beliefs, then your belief is ignorance.

You choose to value ignorance. In choosing to value ignorance you choose not to value learning, growth, openness and many other values.

Choosing to value ignorance means you are choosing to ignore others as well. If your intent is ignorance then imagine the behaviors that would go with this intent!

Sometimes we believe we have a certain intent and then we find out that our intent wasn’t realized. This can be quite a shock to us. Initially we might go to that place of blaming someone from stopping us to achieve our intent.

Hopefully you won’t stay here for too long. Asking yourself what stopped you from achieving your intent may help you to realize that you were actually not committed to that intent and so another intent was over riding it.

A Quick Story

Let’s take a look at Cassandra…

Cassandra was planning out her day. She checked her schedule and it all looked exactly as she had planned. She had her appointments and then mid morning she would take a break and do a yoga class.

She got up early and started working through her schedule. The appointment just before her yoga class was to discuss a new system in the organization she worked in. She joined the meeting and became so absorbed in getting the system right that she didn’t notice the time.

She quickly left the meeting and arrived at her yoga class ten minutes late. Her yoga school had a policy that you cannot enter the room if the class has already started. They told Cassandra that they would not allow her to do yoga. This enormously shocked Cassandra and as she walked away she felt a tear of frustration hit her cheek.

Why had this happened?

She had spent her whole morning preparing for this yoga session. It helped her stay focused and fit. Her whole intent had been to go to yoga, so why had she missed it?

After a few deep breaths Cassandra stopped and reflected. She had decided, in the meeting prior to yoga that getting a work system right was more important than her yoga session. When she thought back to it she realized that she had even thought in the meeting of perhaps cancelling her yoga so she could complete the meeting. Her intent had shifted.

She had decided that her work was more important than her yoga session.

So why was Cassandra so shocked when she found out she wasn’t going to be able to do yoga?

Because at that moment in time, she realized that she had failed to achieve her intent. She could spend some time getting angry with herself or she could evaluate very quickly which intent she wanted to commit to.

A choice was necessary and in order to continue to trust herself she needed to commit to one intent and trust herself to do this.

The Power of Intent

Self-awareness is built on knowing your intent.  But you haven’t fully unlocked the power of Intent yet.

Intent is mighty powerful. It can shift mountains, it can change anything, and it can create anything.

However the greatest and most powerful element of intent is that you can create whatever intent you want:

  • If you want to create the intent that the world is beautiful then the world is beautiful. If you want to create the intent that you are successful, then you will be successful.
  • If you want to create the intent that you are a victim, then you will be a victim.
  • If you want to create the intent that you are better than others, then you will put others down to achieve this. If you want to create the intent to love others, then you will love others.
  • If you want to cerate the intent that you will reach your personal goals and personal success…you will.

Whatever your intent is, you will achieve it.

Remember though that having something this powerful in your control is huge. You can make it work for good or bad. It is completely your intent as to how you use it and it is working ALL the time!

Contemplation

  • How aware are you of your intent behind every behavior?
  • What can you put in place, i.e. a practice, to learn more about your intent?
  • What intent would you like to create right now?

Application

Our intent is your aim, our personal goal in life.

Our intent tells us that we have decided to uphold a certain belief and we are now going to model that belief. In my coaching I need to determine what my intent is, for myself and my client, at the beginning of each coaching session.

If my intent is to create a powerful space then that is what I’ll do. If before any coaching session if my intent is not honoring both parties then I need to know this before I start so that I can remedy this.

Hey I’m human and yes there days when my intent might not be to most positively focused. It is important for me to recognize this for the benefit of my client, I don’t sit there and beat myself up for “slip”, but rather I decide whether this is the intent I want to continue to have for the rest of the day, if not…I change it.

My self-awareness is paramount to the success of my coaching. The more I know about my intent the better I am able to assist myself and my clients.

Supporting my clients in knowing their intent is part of my role as a coach. I don’t have to know what their intent is but rather support them in revealing it to themselves. I do this by asking them about their actions and what drives their actions. I support them by asking them what intent they wish to create and then we can hold this intent for them. I can visualize this intent for them and I can enthuse them to achieve it.

The Role of Meditation and Deep Breathing

To assist you in finding your intent I suggest meditating regularly. More and more people, including CEO’s in large corporations are recognizing the importance of meditation.

It is no longer a practice for spiritualists only. We now know so much about the importance of meditation in our daily life and it is being practiced more and more in board-rooms across the globe.

I encourage you to take the time out to stop and breathe deeply and slowly. To help I have produced several mediation audios that use brain-sync/ hemispheric synchronization technology, Contact Me if you would like more info.

There is a growing belief that the only way to solve world conflict is through meditation. In some cultures war has been occurring for many generations. It is now part of the culture.

The way forward is to go within. This is meditation. We can only know or change ourselves. Through meditation, you can draw from your unconscious mind information about your entrenched beliefs and bring them to your conscious mind. This will support you in knowing your intent.

Reflection

  • What questions can you ask yourself to help discover your intent?
  • What process or ritual do you have in place to create an intent before your engage in an important meeting?
  • What was your intent when you decided to do what you are doing?

Well that does it for this topic.  I hope you found the information helpful and it created some internal dialogue.

I’d like to hear from you about this, please share your thoughts in the comments below.

This Warrior Mind podcast is based on Mental Strength Tip #17 – Open MindednessWarrior Mind Podcast

The purpose of this Warrior Mind Podcast is to encourage you to suspend and to put on hold, your disbelief and doubts around the ideas, thoughts and philosophies that you have regarding personal success and reaching your personal goals.

I’d like to think about how tightly at times you hold on to old beliefs like a drowning man holds on to a life-preserver. We are sometimes so afraid of letting go for fear of “drowning.”  When often by letting go we can swim to a ship that will take us to exactly where we want to go.

The cool thing about beliefs is you can try them on…like a suit or jacket.  If, after a while, it doesn’t fit you can put it back.  This type of mental strength approach to open-mindedness is spirit-based consciousness.  By being open and aware that there are new and different beliefs that can possibly change your entire life is the start of peak personal performance and personal success.

Enjoy the podcast below:

Warrior Mind Podcast

Who Ever You Think You Are, You're More Powerful Then That

Recap:

What I’m attempting to accomplish here is to encourage you to open your mind for the sake of achieving your personal goals and personal success.

In all the Warrior Mind Podcast I’ve been challenging your beliefs at some level.  Now I’m downright asking to you “put them on hold” and consider what you believe may be all wrong!

Not wrong as in “wrong or right”, but wrong in helping you reach your personal goals and personal success.

All I’m doing here is making a suggestion for you to try on a new jacket.  When you’re presented with a new idea, no matter how small or radical, ask yourself, “I wonder how trying this idea on will help me reach my peak performance? Without an open mind it’s difficult to increase your level of conscious awareness.  Without an open mind you’re doomed to relive all your old beliefs that have been programmed into your mind and get the same results you’re currently dissatisfied with.

Hey…thanks for stopping by!  I hope you find this post will be helpful in creating the life you desire.Intent

What is Intent?

Encarta describes intent as “with full attention or effort concentrated or focused on one thing, showing great determination to do something.”

One of the challenges with intent is that we are not always consciously aware of what our intent is; as such we may not achieve our personal goals or personal success.

If we look at the definition again, we can see that intent is about focusing on one thing. Intent is the driver behind what we are doing or thinking.  You must have intent to achieve personal success!

It is the belief driving our thoughts, words and actions. We always have intent when we are doing something. It is knowing what the intent is that enables us to unlock the driver behind our actions and makes it clearer for us to see.

Intent is the fuel that helps move us towards out personal goals.

Many times we are working with people who have exactly the same intent as ourselves but their behaviors are different to our own. By observing their behaviors we may be lead to believe that we are not aligned with one another.

I love stories to make a point so here’s a story about Billy-Jo and Bobby-Sue…Hey they sound like they should be in a song :-)

See Billy-Jo

Billy-Jo’s role in an organization was to collect data to support the sales team. He gathered as much information as was possible and spent a great deal of time transferring this information into wonderful colorful spreadsheets. He loved his job, valued integrity and enjoyed working with the sales team. He worked very hard and diligently. He was greatly motivated to support the sales team so everyone could achieve great results.

See Bobby-Sue

Bobby-Sue was a sales person, one of the top ones on the team. She prided herself on achieving goals, working diligently to achieve them. She recognized the importance of the sales reports as compiled by Billy-Jo and greatly relied on them to achieve her goal. She loved working for the organization and was committed to achieving success for the whole team. She highly valued integrity and worked hard at ensuring this.

See Bobby-Sue and Billy-Jo Working Together

Each week when Billy-Jo released the reports Bobby-Sue would go over them with a red pen, looking for any errors or discrepancies. If she came across an error she would immediately email Billy-Jo about it. She needed precise figures to achieve her goal and thus the team goal.

Each week Billy-Jo feared the release of the reports. He always felt unacknowledged by Bobby-Sue and thought she was critical of everything that he did. Bobby-Sue would respond to this by saying she had high standards and wouldn’t settle for something not being right. Every week Billy-Jo did his utmost to ensure the reports were perfect. This however started to place a great deal of stress on him.

See Bobby-Sue and Billy-Jo NOT Working Together

Overtime his motivation dropped and Bobby-Sue and Billy-Jo started sending aggressive emails to each other.

We have all experienced some sort of this type of situation before.

The main concern for both Bobby-Sue and Billy-Jo was that they both believed that the other person was out of alignment with the team and organization goals. They both believed that the other person was trying to undermine their intent.

But if we observe their driving beliefs as written above, they actually have the same driving beliefs. Both people believe in integrity, both are committed to the team, both value high levels of work standards.

Yet why do they see each other so differently?

It is because their interpretations of their beliefs are acted out through different behaviors.

But their beliefs or values are aligned.

Imagine sitting down with Billy-Jo and Bobby-Sue and explaining to them that they are both aligned and that their intent is the same. They both want the same outcomes.

No doubt this would shock both of them initially.

Knowing our intent greatly supports us in our relationships, both personal and work related. If we know our intent is to have integrity, as was the case with Bobby-Sue and Billy-Jo, then we can explain this when our behaviors are not looking the same and thus not appearing to reflect the same intent.

By understanding someone’s intent you can see past the behaviors. We can also apologies for our behavior if it didn’t align with our intent. We do sometimes get these confused. Our main source of confusion is when we are unsure of our intent.

Self-Application

Intent is extraordinarily powerful. It determines an outcome. We always have intent, consciously known or not.

Imagine a world where you decided to create an intent that was always about honoring other people.

How would an intent like this play out in your behaviors?

Every time you entered into a conversation or carried out a task, you were consciously aware of your intent – to honor people. Having this as your intent will change your behaviors, your approach, everything that you do. It will open up the way that you think and work.

Imagine now having the intent of always being right. Every thing that you do will be designed to create this intent. Your actions will reinforce it. Your motivation will be to achieve it. Your intent becomes your goal, it becomes your focus. Every behavior you carry out will be to reinforce this intent.

OK.,..I think there’s enough here to contemplate for a while.  Next week I’ll wrap up this subject and for now, be consciousness of your intent for at least 5 actions you take on a daily basis and see how this intent supports your personal goals and vision for your personal success.

I’d like to hear from you about this, please share your thoughts in the comments below.

Welcome back to another Mental Strength Tip!faith for personal success

Achieving personal success and reaching your personal goals begins with a mental strength mindset and empowering beliefs.  Reaching your peak potential starts in your mind…and finishes with taking inspired action.

This is one in a series of virtual life coaching tips to help start your week of strong so that you can reach your personal goals and personal success.

I take one subject and run though a brief overview of it, then ask some very direct questions.  The intention of this virtual ‘life coaching’ session is for you to write the questions in your success journal and then reflect on them and write your answers and thoughts in your journal.

These series of posts are for YOU!  If you’re not able to coach with me personally ether one-on-one over the phone or in The 2nd Passage, I want you to at least get the benefit of a “virtual” mental strength coaching session.

Enjoy!

Objective of this Mental Strength Tip:

To help you take an inventory of your faith in yourself, other and anything beyond yourself.

To assist you in understanding the necessity of having a high degree of faith in yourself, and to suggest that you consider faith in a Higher Power if you have not considered this before.

The goal here is not a religious or spiritual conversion, but the ability to tap into a higher energy field that has the power to dramatically increase power, purpose, passion and perseverance.

Let’s Get Started:

I’d like you to consider how much faith you really have in yourself, others and a “higher” force beyond you.

I am quite aware that this can be perceived as entering sacred territory as it relates to your religious and spiritual beliefs, so we’ll proceed with caution.

Turning you off in this area could destroy the trust we’ve established so far and could jeopardize this virtual life coaching relationship. So let’s proceed with caution, tolerance and empathy, sounds good?

“A faith is a necessity to a man. Woe to him who believes in nothing.” – Victor Hugo

Questions to Uncover Beliefs about Mental Strength Thinking:

  • What role does faith play in creating personal success, reaching your personal goals and living a life of fulfillment and happiness?
  • Would you be offended if I asked you what role religion or spirituality plays in your life?
  • How have your religious or spiritual views helped you through though times?

Unsupportive Beliefs about Faith

  • Faith is about religion.
  • Faith is about how I was brought up.
  • Choosing a faith that I agree with will be going against my parents and others.

Mental Strength Beliefs about Faith

  • Faith is about believing in something that cannot be seen or proven.
  • Faith in myself is critical to achieving my personal goals and personal success.
  • Great faith manifests power, purpose passion and perseverance.

Outrageous Questions:

  • Are your religious or spiritual beliefs really our own or someone else’s?
  • Are you mentally strong enough to question your own religious and spiritual beliefs?
  • Are your religious and spiritual beliefs helping you or holding you back from achieving personal success and reaching your personal goals?

Reflective Questions:

  • Have you ever considered the impact your faith has on your life and your career and your personal success?
  • Do you believe people who refuse to question their own beliefs about religious and spiritual views are less or more empowered?
  • Are people who refuse to discuss religion, sex, money or politics operating from love or fear?

Mental Strength Coaching:

I understand that for many people faith is what helps them connect the dots and make sense of the world. They fill in the gaps of understanding with faith in things they cannot see or prove. The average person will most likely become offended and think I’m challenging their most sacred beliefs, no matter how delusional they are.

I’m aware that if this comes across too strong you might interpret this virtual coaching session as threatening to your beliefs and it might frighten you into a fear based response.

What I am really attempting to accomplish here is to challenge you to think about fait at a higher level of consciousness and learn how to use it as a mental strength tool.

Final Thought

A discussion and coaching around faith is tricky and worth the effort to an individual dedicate to their personal success.  To leave a source of great energy and power untapped is unthinkable to me and many others. Napoleon Hill felt so strong about this subject he dedicated an entire chapter to it in “Think and Grow Rich.”

“As your faith is strengthened you will find that there is no longer the need to have a sense of control, that things will flow as they will, and that you will flow with them, to your great delight and benefit.” – Emmanuel Teney
