Most individuals run their lives on autopilot, completely unaware of what they’re doing, especially in regards creating mental strengthlife full of power, purpose, passion and perseverance.

They sit around “unconsciousness” and then wonder why they feel unmotivated, uninspired and not reaching their personal goals and achieving personal success.

When you walk through life unconsciousness and on autopilot you are giving your personal power away.  On a daily basis you unknowingly let others suck your personal power right out of you.

You can think of this people, places and things as physic vampires.  They drain you so that by the end of the day you are so tired you freely give the rest of your energy to TV.

This type of autopilot living is he way to apathy and this then leads to depression.  Depression, because you’ve given your personal power away.

In order to live full of power, purpose, passion and perseverance you MUST exercise your mental strength and take back your personal power back.

How do you do this?

By making the right decisions…every day, hour and minute.

The basic everyday decisions are especially empowering. For example, what you decide to watch on TV.  I now there are many that must watch TV and then there are the mental strength warriors the refuse to watch TV.

So the next time you decide to program yourself with TV ask yourself…

  • Is this taking me forward in life or am I just letting myself slip into a zombie state?
  • Is this program something that will enrich my mind or am I just watching stupid people so I can feel like I am not so stupid?
  • Is this a program that will enrich my family’s life?

I will even go so far is to ask yourself these questions about ANY decision about where your attention goes.

If the chose you’re about to make doesn’t enrich your life then why are you watching them?

Choice brings empowerment, waking you up from an autopilot-zombie state. By the way, a little “vegging” here and there isn’t bad as long as you’re consciousness of it and it doesn’t dominate your life.

Below are some empowering mental strength questions to help you take back your personal power.

If you are serious about asking AND answering these questions, they’ll force you to rethink your decisions and you’ll condition yourself to make wiser choices.

By using the below questions as a mirror, you’ll come face to face with yourself.  You might not like what you see.  You then must develop the mental strength necessary to make better choices, this in turn will empower you and you’ll put you in the frame of mind for feeling so much stronger and more confident.

  1. Will this propel me towards an inspiring future? Or will this keep me stuck in the past?
  1. Will this bring me long-term fulfillment? Or will it bring me short-term gratification?
  1. Am I standing in my power or am I trying to please another?
  1. Am I looking for what’s right or am I looking for what’s wrong?
  1. Will this choice add to my life force or will it rob me of my energy?
  1. Will I use this situation as a catalyst to grow and evolve or will I use it to beat myself up?
  1. Does this choice empower me or does it disempower me?
  1. Is this an act of self-love or an act of self-sabotage?
  1. Is this an act of faith or an act of fear?
  1. Am I choosing from my Divinity or am I choosing from my humanity?

By asking yourself these questions AND answering them, you’ll be developing your mental strength and soon get into the positive habit of rethinking the decisions you make.

Your life will automatically improve and soon you’ll be living a life of power, purpose, passion and perseverance.

Remember, wise choices bring self-empowerment.

I’m taking another class at CSL San Jose “The Principles of Successful Living.” The course is based around the self empowermentphilosophy of The Science of Mind and specifically those sections that discuss “success.”

It’s a great class and we have an assignment this week to write a 200 word paper on “How would it make life better to think of unwanted conditions as inevitable consequences?”

Very interesting concept, don’t you think?

Well I thought I’d share my paper here with you so that it might generate some thoughts and discussions for you.

To begin, let’s take establish agreed definitions for a few words.  I’ll use http://dictionary.reference.com for the source.   I selected three words in particular:

Inevitable:

  • Unavoidable
  • Sure to happen; certain

Conditions:

  • A particular mode of being of a person or thing; existing state; situation with respect to circumstances.

Consequences

  • The effect, result, or outcome of something occurring earlier: The accident was the consequence of reckless driving.

The word “consequence” is really interesting…notice the in the definition the word “effect.”

Well, the law of Cause and Effect states that for every action we take, i.e. ‘cause’, there is a result, i.e. condition.  So for everything we do there is an effect…a consequence that manifests into a result…our condition.

NLP (which is just one the thousand of language of the Universe) encourages that we empower ourselves by standing on the “cause” side of the equation.  That is, we take responsibility for our results, changing the results or how we respond to them.  Basically we stop playing the victim.

Taking responsibly is NOT taking blame or being at fault.  Taking responsibility is being empowered to take control of your conditions, how to change them and the learning’s from them.

Taking responsibility gives us the power to do something about the condition. Otherwise, when we blame someone or soothing, we have given our power to them to change the condition.

So, in looking at ‘cause and effect’ aren’t all conditions are inevitable?

Sure they are.  So now all we just need to do is simply look at the cause of them and how we respond to them.

The key here is to take responsibility for our part in the creation of our condition and how we respond to it, as well as the learning’s from it.

So, when we stand securely on the cause side we are in control of our outcomes, or at least how we respond to them whether they are “unwanted” or not.

Which brings up and the term “unwanted.”

In reality all conditions are natural, it’s what we project on them that makes then wanted or unwanted.  It’s our thoughts about the condition that causes the ‘suffering’…there we go again….cause (thoughts) and effect (suffering).

When we accept that there will always be outcomes, conditions, results or effects and we know that we can take responsibly for them, the last piece is how we label the condition.

When we label it as unwanted we suffer.  When we label it as “a learning”, we grow and are empowered.

So…back to answering the original question, “How would it make life better to think of unwanted conditions as inevitable consequences?”

I would suggest that by knowing that all conditions are inevitable and that we are responsible for the condition…or at the minimum the way we respond to the condition, then we only need to change our perspective of the condition to live a life of empowerment.

This shift in perspective of the condition occurs when we have  the faith that every condition that we create is an opening to higher consciousness and all we have to do is be ready, willing and able…which is standing back again at ‘cause.’

The left frontal lobe (red), the forward porti...

Dr. Joe Dispenza is an amazing individual!  My mental strength coaching has come about directly from his message and science.

Last night I was watching “Evolve Your Brain” and it (again) is amazing!  Every time I watch it I pick up something new.

One key topic I picked up from last nights viewing is at the end of the lecture he asked the audience (including those watching the DVD) if they understood the information and see how powerful it is?

Everyone (including myself) all agreed.  Then he asked the big question.  If we see how powerful the information is, why don’t we do the exercises/process?  His answer…simply we don’t belief it works.

WOW!  This hit me right between the eyes.  Not that I don’t understand, trust and see how powerful the information is, but at some level I don’t 100% believe it.

Sure, I practice what I preach, coach and write about…and there’s another level I can take my practice to.  So, after hearing this challenge I’m even more committed to demonstrating the power of what I call “mental strength” in the achievement of personal success, personal performance and personal empowerment.

Who wants to join me?

To give you a taste of what Dr. Joe Dispenza discusses in his lectures, DVD and books I’ve provide some excerpts from a paper of his “The Throne of Our Divinity.” (downlink provided)

“The frontal lobe of the brain is what we use for focused consciousness attention. When we change what is in our frontal lobe, we change our awareness of the environment around us by changing how we perceive it and thus respond to it.”

“The metaphor of an open mind never meant so much. Think of awareness in this vast sea of potentials as if you were walking in the dark with a flashlight and shining your light on the reality that has been there all along.”

“Our human brain processes 400 billion bits of information every second; however, we are only aware of about 2000 of those billions of bits of data. We therefore are not aware of all of that information because we literally are not attending to those stimuli.”

“Until recently, scientists knew very little about the frontal lobe. They considered it ‘the quiet area’ because most of the measurements of brain activity using instrumentation gave them little data as to what was really taking place there.”

“However, with the advancement of technology, we now know more about its true function. It is the seat of inspiration of a human being.”

“Brain researchers have now proven, through the use of sophisticated technology, that truly focused individuals can calm down all the areas of the neocortex are associated only with the awareness of the body and the environment. Therefore, the illusionary separation of an individual from the environment becomes a loose, thin membrane when one is truly focused. That is, one stops using the part of the brain that is the associative memory bank that reaffirms us to people, places, things, time, and past events. We literally become one with an idea. The throne of our divinity is the frontal lobe and its sword is focused concentration. The free will of the human being allows us the privilege to choose where we put our awareness. As we now know, our reality is where awareness is.”

I hope you’ve gotten a sense of just how powerful you are!

This is a follow-up to Part I of my post on Action vs. Delay

My coaching, ICA, has been such a great inspiration and source of information for this post, I’d like to thank them again!

In order to achieve a goal and personal success, we must be ready willing and able to take action. Without consistent and persistent action, the goal will not be achieved. It is for this reason that action is at the heart of my coaching practice.

Action is described in the dictionary as ?”the process of doing something in order to achieve a purpose.” Action is extremely powerful and is the catalyst used in my coaching to create change and personal empowerment. It is important for us to recognize that nothing happens without action. In order for us to achieve different results in our lives, we must DO things differently.

To create change in our lives and move forward in achieving personal success, we must take action. We can spend our entire lives dreaming, thinking, planning and preparing to accomplish our goals, but without action, those goals and dreams will never be anything more than a desire. It is true that we must first know what it is that we want to accomplish before we can move forward but in order to get from point A to point B, our success essentially comes down to acting on our knowledge and plans and taking the steps necessary to move forward. By taking action, we create the movement that is necessary to make things happen.

If we look at action as an accelerating force that moves or pulls us forward, we can also look at delay as an accelerating force that pulls us back and keeps us stuck. Delay works in opposition to action. There are many factors that feed each of these forces. A Native American story illustrates this concept:

A Native American elder once described his own inner struggles to a friend.

“Inside every man there are two wolves.

The Bad wolf is mean and angry.

The Good wolf is good and kind.

The Bad wolf fights the Good wolf all day.”

When asked by the friend which wolf wins, the elder reflected for a moment and replied,

“The one we feed the most.”

Just as in this story the Bad wolf fights the Good wolf; delay opposes or “fights” action. The better we can manage the decelerating force of delay, the more acceleration and momentum we will experience in moving forward.

Self Application

Sometimes we feel that being in action all the time is too exhausting, even not possible. How many times have you heard someone say that they can‘t be in action all the time, that it is just not natural?

We may convince ourselves that being in action is not always possible. Let‘s look at what being in action looks like. Being in action doesn‘t only mean running marathons, climbing mountains, acquiring businesses, finding a partner, We can sometimes feel that action is huge and therefore must be about physical movement and that movement must be huge or we are just not successful or moving forward. This is not the case.

A small thought can create a huge shift which in turn can change our whole life. This is action. Reading, thinking, meditating, reflecting, writing, talking, coaching, walking, mentoring- all of these steps create movement and movement is action. Sure we can talk and talk and not move forward, but with a good coach this is not possible. All of these steps require us to want and to be open to moving forward. They all then become forward movements. This is action.

However we often confuse action with the achievement of a goal or the outcome of a goal. The huge achievements above, marathons, etc are not an action step. They are a total of action steps. You don‘t win a marathon by waking up and going to the track and winning. It has planning, training and great thought put into it. When we are not in action we often think of these goal outcomes as the next step, so we don‘t get started. The end result is not the action that needs to occur right now. We have that end result as a guide, a vision, a dream, a goal, not an action step. Imagine the role of parenting for a moment to see the role of action.

A new baby is born. The first thing the parent wants is the child to be healthy not to be able to walk and talk instantly. Over several years the progress of a child is celebrated, every action is recorded- a little smile, a grin, the first mouthful of food, and so on. Until after many years the child is walking and talking. Yet as adults we may expect to achieve years of action steps in the next ten minutes. We live in times of immediacy. We want success now. What ever happened to the training we had as children, to celebrate each step and to be present and enjoy the moment. Action is the process, the goal is the outcome. By entering the process, you are in action. The process is fundamental to the achievement of the goal. It is the path to growth, learning, self esteem and confidence. It is action.

Delay is being afraid, worrying, getting stressed, feeling tense, uncertain. Action is certainty.

So what causes delay?

If we know that action creates the results that we desire, why do we delay things?

People get stuck when their fear, limiting beliefs, commitments, judgments or Underlying Beliefs (UBs) are greater than their motivation to move forward in action.

Fear- It is fear that steps in the way and prevents us from moving forward. This fear may stem from many causes. Some of us fear failure. We may fear making mistakes. Others may fear success or change. The way fear impacts us is that it literally freezes us. It turns us into a hard frozen block, giving us no flexibility or flowing movement. If you take this analogy even further fear makes us cold, rigid and static. We dare not alter the temperature or the environment as it could cause a meltdown. But we must move forward and the only way to do this is that we have to change. We must open ourselves to moving forward. We must recognize that the fear is greater than the change. We must make a shift. We must take one step forward….this will create personal empowerment.

Limiting beliefs/ Judgments- It can be our own limiting beliefs or judgments that hold us back from being in action. For example – we may believe that we don‘t deserve to achieve a particular goal; we may believe that we are not smart enough; we may judge the financial gain that comes with success as “bad‘; we may have a belief in futility, so we take the attitude of why bother, it won‘t work. We may believe that we will never amount to much and accept this belief. To move forward we first need to understand what our beliefs are. How do they impact the way we think and believe?

Commitment – If we are not committed to taking action then we just don‘t. You know that familiar story of “Tomorrow I am going to join the gym.” Yet it never happens. If we are not committed to joining the gym then we won‘t achieve the first action step to doing it. Tomorrow comes; we wake up and convince ourselves of all the reasons why we shouldn‘t go to the gym. Perhaps for some reason we have come to believe that the goal of going to the gym should be our goal. We see others achieving it, we know it is good for us, but it just isn‘t happening. We are not committed to this action. Instead of beating ourselves up over not achieving going to the gym we should look at what is the action that we want to take to move forward.

UBs or behavioral patterns- Whether we are aware of it or not, a certain pattern of behavior that is so automatic to ourselves may be hindering us from taking action. This behavior is so much a part of us that we don‘t and may not be able to see it. For example, an underlying beliefs might be to be unsuccessful; to feel safe; to not become responsible or “blamed” for something; or to avoid “failing” at something from the very start therefore taking no action. Just writing down some of our behavior patterns around achieving action can move us forward. Another list could contain all the behaviors we take when we delay.

Next week I’ll finish up with action vs. delay.

My e-book, “Develop the Mental Strength of a Warrior” can assist you tremendously in moving from delay to action.  If you’d like to experience Coaching for Success request your Introductory Consultation.
