Welcome back to another Mental Strength Tip!faith for personal success

Achieving personal success and reaching your personal goals begins with a mental strength mindset and empowering beliefs.  Reaching your peak potential starts in your mind…and finishes with taking inspired action.

This is one in a series of virtual life coaching tips to help start your week of strong so that you can reach your personal goals and personal success.

I take one subject and run though a brief overview of it, then ask some very direct questions.  The intention of this virtual ‘life coaching’ session is for you to write the questions in your success journal and then reflect on them and write your answers and thoughts in your journal.

These series of posts are for YOU!  If you’re not able to coach with me personally ether one-on-one over the phone or in The 2nd Passage, I want you to at least get the benefit of a “virtual” mental strength coaching session.

Enjoy!

Objective of this Mental Strength Tip:

To help you take an inventory of your faith in yourself, other and anything beyond yourself.

To assist you in understanding the necessity of having a high degree of faith in yourself, and to suggest that you consider faith in a Higher Power if you have not considered this before.

The goal here is not a religious or spiritual conversion, but the ability to tap into a higher energy field that has the power to dramatically increase power, purpose, passion and perseverance.

Let’s Get Started:

I’d like you to consider how much faith you really have in yourself, others and a “higher” force beyond you.

I am quite aware that this can be perceived as entering sacred territory as it relates to your religious and spiritual beliefs, so we’ll proceed with caution.

Turning you off in this area could destroy the trust we’ve established so far and could jeopardize this virtual life coaching relationship. So let’s proceed with caution, tolerance and empathy, sounds good?

“A faith is a necessity to a man. Woe to him who believes in nothing.” – Victor Hugo

Questions to Uncover Beliefs about Mental Strength Thinking:

  • What role does faith play in creating personal success, reaching your personal goals and living a life of fulfillment and happiness?
  • Would you be offended if I asked you what role religion or spirituality plays in your life?
  • How have your religious or spiritual views helped you through though times?

Unsupportive Beliefs about Faith

  • Faith is about religion.
  • Faith is about how I was brought up.
  • Choosing a faith that I agree with will be going against my parents and others.

Mental Strength Beliefs about Faith

  • Faith is about believing in something that cannot be seen or proven.
  • Faith in myself is critical to achieving my personal goals and personal success.
  • Great faith manifests power, purpose passion and perseverance.

Outrageous Questions:

  • Are your religious or spiritual beliefs really our own or someone else’s?
  • Are you mentally strong enough to question your own religious and spiritual beliefs?
  • Are your religious and spiritual beliefs helping you or holding you back from achieving personal success and reaching your personal goals?

Reflective Questions:

  • Have you ever considered the impact your faith has on your life and your career and your personal success?
  • Do you believe people who refuse to question their own beliefs about religious and spiritual views are less or more empowered?
  • Are people who refuse to discuss religion, sex, money or politics operating from love or fear?

Mental Strength Coaching:

I understand that for many people faith is what helps them connect the dots and make sense of the world. They fill in the gaps of understanding with faith in things they cannot see or prove. The average person will most likely become offended and think I’m challenging their most sacred beliefs, no matter how delusional they are.

I’m aware that if this comes across too strong you might interpret this virtual coaching session as threatening to your beliefs and it might frighten you into a fear based response.

What I am really attempting to accomplish here is to challenge you to think about fait at a higher level of consciousness and learn how to use it as a mental strength tool.

Final Thought

A discussion and coaching around faith is tricky and worth the effort to an individual dedicate to their personal success.  To leave a source of great energy and power untapped is unthinkable to me and many others. Napoleon Hill felt so strong about this subject he dedicated an entire chapter to it in “Think and Grow Rich.”

“As your faith is strengthened you will find that there is no longer the need to have a sense of control, that things will flow as they will, and that you will flow with them, to your great delight and benefit.” – Emmanuel Teney

I was inspired by two e-mails I read this morning and how one supports the other.  The first is from Science of Mind.  Ernest Holmes wrote Science of Mind in 1926 and it’s a great book about mental strength, personal success, health and connecting with God.  If you don’t like the word God…too bad…use what ever you like so that you’ll get this message.

Here’s the note from Science of Mind.

Faith and Prayer

Ernest Holmes

“Why is it that one person’s prayers are answered while another’s remain unanswered? It cannot be because God is a respecter of persons or has greater consideration for one than for another. It must be that all persons receive results, not because of what they believe, but in spite of peculiarities of their belief. It must be the way of their belief that makes the difference.

Faith is not a dogma, a creed, or a statement of being. It is a certain mental approach to Reality. It is an affirmative approach as opposed to a negative one. It is agreement as opposed to denial….Prayer, faith, and belief are mental attitudes. It is written that “faith shall heal the sick and God shall raise him up.” This implies a human act followed by an act of God. It also implies that without such a human act, the act of God will not follow. The act of God follows our faith in God.

Prayer leads one to a place of mental acceptance, but prayer without faith is ineffectual. Faith elevates the prayer to conviction and acceptance. Where does God come in? God already is in and does not have to come from anywhere to anywhere. God is the entire process, both in our thought as individuals and in the universal as answering our individual thought. The prayer of faith makes it possible for the law to respond and do the thing desired. “ – Excerpted from Can We Talk to God? by Ernest Holmes, Science of Mind Publishing.

The second e-mail was from Jamie Smart, and NLP aficionado from the UK.  This e-mail was about happiness:

Today is Practice for Tomorrow

Jamie Smart

“Today is practice for tomorrow. People like what’s familiar, remember? Whatever you’re doing today is becoming more familiar, so if you want to go somewhere new in your life, you need to start getting familiar with that.

Is what you’re practicing today about where you’ve been, or where you want to be? Practice feeling how you’ll feel and doing what you’ll do when you get where you’re going. Today is practice for tomorrow”

Do you remember the movie “Groundhog Day?”  Bill Murray was stuck repeating the same day over and over…his goal though was to meet this beautiful young lady.  He realized that he was “stuck” and unless he did something different he would never meet her.

So everyday he did something different, until finally he meet’s her.  Here check out this scene:

So, what’s my point….well if pray, meditate, set affirmation like we’ve done in the past, we just reliving the past. If however, we pray, belief and have faith that is different from yesterday and do this again and again.  Well, perhaps our prayer will be answered and we’ll meet up with our potential.

I’m a big fan and believer in the teaching of Napoleon Hill.  I just read a passage from one of his books I wanted to share.

For me, when I was reading and contemplating this message I realized just how much mental strength is required in this day and age to follow these words of wisdom.  Today we have so many distractions that we don’t allow ourselves to sit and contemplate ideas like the one below.

It takes mental strength to turn off the TV, the radio, the video games and think about what you’re going to do with the rest of your life….and by using great information, like the below writing, and just sit, ponder and journal…miraculous insights will begin to happen.

I’m here to help in developing the mental strength so that you CAN….

FAITH vs FEAR

by Dr. Napoleon Hill

“FEAR is faith in reverse gear. Fear is a negative belief in something, and belief is the very foundation of faith.

Faith is a positive mental attitude in action.

Your mental attitude is the sum total of your thoughts at any given time.

A positive mental attitude has its roots in the spiritual wells of one’s soul. And it is the medium by which adversities may be transmuted into benefits.

Your achievements are limited only by your mental attitude, for it is true that your only real limitations are those which you set up in your own mind.

Keep your mental attitude RIGHT and your future will always be BRIGHT. Success goes to the person whose mental attitude is such that he expects success. And health, wealth, happiness are products of a positive mental attitude.

Your mental attitude, whether it be positive or negative, weaves into your character every thread of your thoughts.

A positive mental attitude is the factor which makes prayer pay off. Keep your mental attitude positive and everything else will take care of itself in your favor.

People who work with a positive mental attitude are constantly doing the “impossible.”

The difference between mediocrity and genius is mainly a question of mental attitude. If you don’t like what life has given you, change your mental attitude and attract something else more to your liking! And remember that not all of the wisdom of the sages and the ages can help the person who quits trying to help himself.

Remember that the Creator has so made us that our strength grows out of our struggles, and we are no bigger than the circumstances which we permit to frighten or worry us.

Faith is a state of mind which has been called “the mainspring of the soul,” through which your aims, desires and plans may be translated into their physical equivalents.

Besides a positive mental attitude, free from negatives such as envy, hatred, jealousy and fear, applied faith has other fundamentals.

These include: A definiteness of purpose, supported by personal initiative or action . . . Recognition of the fact that every adversity carries with it the seed of an equivalent benefit; that temporary defeat is not failure until it has been accepted by you as such . . . The habit of expressing gratitude for one’s blessings daily, in the form of a prayer.

To create a mental attitude favorable for the expression of applied faith, follow these instructions:

1. Know what you want and determine what you will give in return for it.

2. When you affirm the object of your prayers, let your imagination see yourself already in possession of it.

3. Keep your mind open for guidance from within, and when you are inspired by “hunches”—take heed of them immediately, for they may bring you the answer you seek.

4. When you are overtaken by defeat, as you may be many times, remember that man’s faith is often tested in many ways, and defeat may be only your testing time; therefore, accept defeat only as an inspiration for greater effort.

There is no such reality as a “blanket” faith. You must have a definite objective, purpose, or desire before you can enjoy the benefits of applied faith. Faith is guidance from within which will not bring you that which you seek, but it will show you the path by which you may go after that which you desire.”
