Two mountaineers descending a snow/ice gully f...
Image via Wikipedia

A friend of mine, Shawn Phillips has a great blog “Start Strong Monday” and today’s post was “The Joy of Putting One Foot in Front of the Other” and using mountaineering as a metaphor for life and goals.

I made a comment on the post about false summits and wanted to expand a bit more on in this post.

For those that have not had the joy of mountain climbing it is (for me) the most challenging physically and mentally and most rewarding sports there is.

It takes physical strength, mental strength and sometimes…spiritual strength.  There is no better metaphor for achieving goals then mountaineering.

Imagine…

There you are, up high on a mountain gasping for breath, you’ve been climbing since 2:00 AM.  The view is spectacular and you’re deep in your rhythm.  Then you see it…

The summit!

You feel a sense of excitement knowing your struggle is almost over.  You’ve been going for hours with a 50 lbs pack.  You’re cold, hungry and probably dehydrated, but you feel oh so good, now that your goal is in view.

You start to think how nice it’s going to be to rest for a few minutes, grab something to eat, enjoy the view and feel the great satisfaction of accomplishing what you set out to do.

As you get closer you’re excitement builds and you might even back off a bit to save some energy for the way down.  You get closer and closer…you start to climb the steepest part…you’re almost there and then you reach the top!

A sinking feeling hits you….it wasn’t the summit after all, it was a false summit and the real summit is still way ahead of you.  Your enthusiasm disappears, your energy sinks and you feel depressed.    You gave it everything you got and you’re still not there.

Now what?

For most of us this happens too often in attempting to reach a goal in life.  You think you’ve given it everything you can and then you reach your “false summit” and give up.

For those that have learned from the false summit, this is expected, you keep your rhythm knowing you’ll not stop or slow down until you have actually “bagged the summit.”

The other type of “false summit” is when you really do see the end…your goal and you slow down to look around, tell others you’re that you’re almost there, or any other number of reasons.  Then out of nowhere you get hit by something and never make it.

Ever watch a football player heading for the End Zone slow down and look behind them?  When out of nowhere a defense player catches and tackles him short of making a touchdown.

See there are four types of people.  Those that:

  • Start weak and finish weak – This type really never gets going and complain how cruel life is.
  • Start weak and finish strong – This type tend to take a very, very long time in achieving their goals and often wonder “why.”
  • Start strong and finish weak – This type gets distracted by other goals and opportunities and really never finishes any of them.
  • Start strong and finishes stronger – This type gets their goal and more.  They blast through the finish line with so much momentum they keep going onto another goal and then another goal…you get the picture right?

So, let me ask you…which type are you?

Are you going to surrender to the false summit…or are you going blast through the finish line on to more goals?

This is a decision and choice only you can make.

If you find yourself wanting to be in the “start strong and finishes stronger” and don’t know how, hire a coach a mentor…someone that can help you see and dissolve your limiting thoughts and beliefs.

Believe me it will be worth it….the view is great from the top and there’s plenty of room!

My wife and I were having a very interesting discussion the other night.  We were discussing how some people take action and others don’t.  One the keys in this discussion were that both groups of people have mentors, or at least they have people that they look up to.

One of the realizations was that the ones that didn’t take action was putting too much importance on being just like their mentors, that they felt they need more…  Then, if they did feel that they were almost there they didn’t putting themselves out there for fear of being compared to their mentors and potentially be criticized.

No big ah-ah here’s…so what do cupcakes have to do with this?

Cupcakes are a combination of ingredients, not one is more important then the other.  If we think that one mentor is more important to us then any other, we are focusing on the individual ingredient and not the batter (us).  Milk is not more important then flour in a cupcake recipe, they are both required to make the batter. When we understand that our mentors and gurus are simply ingredients that make up the batter – us, we can then understand that we are a mixture of all of them and by adding our own personal TLC we create a unique combination of them all.

Once this is understood then next step, putting ourselves out there, is similar to putting the batter in the oven.  The batter is no good just sitting around.  It has to experience heat (in the oven) in order to rise and become the tasty cupcake…that is us!

I believe that to grow and then take action, we deserve to understand that each ingredient (mentors and gurus) ARE important, but it’s the combination of them that makes us…well us.  And that this uniqueness is the combination of the ingredients that creates us as individual.  Then we MUST develop the mental strength go into the heat (into the oven)…and put ourselves out there in order to rise to our full potential.

So, what type of cupcake are you?

To Your Inner Strength!

Gregg

Even today, some top performers, mangers, athletes, coaches don’t embrace a mental strength approach. This most likely has a lot to do with the unknown of it and the lack of understanding about mental strength coaching and how it can help…

I have found that my biggest challenge as a mental strength coach is helping the top performers (sales, entrepreneur and athletes) understand the real value of learning the mental strength process.

As a matter of fact, in a recent survey 53% of those surveyed indicated that top performers resist mental strength training because they don’t understand how it can help them!

In today’s society quick results are the expected.  Top performers and their support team don’t embrace mental strength coaching and training because they simply don’t understand how it can help them, or even believe that it can.

This is unfortunate because the elite performers ALL know that the mind skills and mental strength training are essential in their success.

For this reason and a few others, such as lack of time, mental strength coaching is not a critical component of performance enhancement for sales professionals, entrepreneurs and athletes.

Education is the first step in order to establish credibility.

This is why I have created a complimentary mini e-course to help with how applying mental strength training will create dramatic improved results.

You can get the report at:
http://warriormindskills.com

In addition to the report I am offering a complimentary mind skills session.  In this session I will address two issues: (1) The scope of work you do as a mental strength coach, and (2) address the myths surrounding mental strength and mental toughness.

For example, here’s a belief that many top sales professionals and athletes in the more “macho” sports adopt: “I don’t need to improve my mental strength, I have all the skills I need and besides, I’m already mentally tough.”

Top performers are unwilling to accept mental strength strategies if they hold on to misunderstandings and myths about its effectiveness.

I’ve spent at lest 10 years of my career simplifying the mental strength process and debunking the myths.

If you’re in an top performers role or in a “support” role, i.e. coach, manger, trainer then this report will be a great help to.  You can get it now at:
http://warriormindskills.com

In the report I’ll tell you how you can receive the complimentary mind skills session

Gregg

OK guys, you’ve seen them…you know, as you’re standing in the check out line at the grocery store, those covers…the covers of Cosmo, O, Allure and other female magazine giving instructions to women about what men want. But where does that leave us?

Sure there a few men’s magazine that kind of discuss relationships tips for men, but there mainly about how many different sexual positions you use to make love. Yes, sex is important in a relationship, but if that’s all it’s founded on, you and you’re partner will fill empty and start looking for more sexual adventures or new partners.

What the world needs these days are REAL men, the kind of men that are embracing ways to evolve as men. These are the men that are unabashedly masculine, is powerful, confident and living HIS chosen life with honesty, integrity and courage. This type of man is also spontaneous, compassionate and most importantly, living his deepest truth.

This type of man also is completely turned on by the feminine and loves his women sexually and ravishes her, not the old macho style, but in a way where that they both disappear. I know, sounds kind of woo-woo right? This couldn’t be farther from the truth! In today’s world a man must be a man of steel and velvet, of yin and yang.

So how does a man become this “iron man” clocked in silk?

Here are 5 mental strength relations tips that can assist any man in becoming more. These may sound like the old macho man and please contemplate these tips as to their true essence. This is not “I’m the boss, so you have to do what I say”. These tips are to assist you (men) stand strong in your own power while at the same time acknowledging the divine feminine in your lady.

  • Never Change Your Mind to Please Your Woman: If your lady suggests something that changes your perspective, great for listening to her! But you should make a new decision based on YOUR new perspective. Never betray your own deepest knowledge and intuition on order to please her or simply “go along” with her to appease her. Both your lady and you will be weakened by such an action. You’ll then grow to recent each other, and the deposits of accumulated in-authenticity will burned your relationship, as well as their capacity for your free action
  • Don’t Analyze Your Women: The famine’s moods and opinions are like weather patterns. They are constantly changing harsh and calm, there is no single source. No amount of analysis will work. There is no point A to point B direction of cause and effect. There is no straight line that will point to the kernel of the “problem.” In fact, there is no problem, only a storm, a breeze, a sudden change in weather. The origins of these storms are the every present high and low pressure systems of love. When a woman feels love flowing deeply, her mood can instantly evaporate into joy, regardless of the supposed reason for the mood.
  • Your Purpose Must Come Before Your Relationship: Every man that his highest purpose in life cannot be reduced to any particularly relationship. This of course presumes that you KNOW what your highest purpose is. In today’s ever busy world many men are just truing to survive and”make a living.” If this is you, I would recommend finding your purpose quickly and start to live it. There are many ways to find your purpose, I am found of The Warrior’s Quest or a vision quest. Once you have your purpose, if you prioritize your relationship over your higher purpose, you will weaken yourself. You’ll disserve the Universe, cheats your woman and the word of an authentic man how can offer his full and undivided presence.
  • Praise Her: The masculine grows by challenge, come on, we men all LOVE and even look forward to a good “fight”. Without a challenge, the warrior is dead. Not physically dead, but mentally. But the feminine grows by praise, and the more heartfelt praise, the better. The key here guys is heartfelt. This means when you’re watching football and your lady comes in room with a new hair style, dress, etc, you need to stop, look at her and praise her. This doesn’t mean waiting for the next commercial. A man must be unabashed and expresses in his appreciation for his women. Praise her freely and often.
  • Your Track Recorded Doesn’t Matter: Guys, I hate to break this to you but your track record means nothing to your lady. You could have be perfect for ten years, but for 30 seconds you turn into a jerk, your women acts like you’ve always been a jerk. Here’s the thing, the feminine responds to the moment of energy, forgetting your history of past behavior. A man’s past behavior is irrelevant to his women’s feelings in the moment. The confusing part for us guys is that we base much on another man’s history that we think their track record should count of something. But to your women, it doesn’t matter.

I hope I caused a little discomfort for you guys (and ladies I know you took a peek as well). These 5 mental strength relationship tips are just few that my mentors, Satyen Raja and David Deida discuss so eloquently in their teachings.

If like to find out more info I would start with Satyen Raja and his workshop: Sex, Passion and Enlighten.

To Your Inner Strength,

Gregg

What a great positive and inspiring weekend…well except for the Bears loss that is :-( I received Friday three DVD’s that I ordered. There are: Spiritual Warriors, Quest for Success and Quest – Happy, Healthy and Wise.

All these movies are extremely inspirational in their own right. I’d like to highlight the Quest movies. This is another production of Lili Fournier.

Lili abandoned her lucrative career, and set off on a journey to find a way to make the Quest. The previous Quest series of specials have been critically acclaimed as one of the most powerful, inspirational and motivational series ever produced on personal achievement and for pioneering spiritual programming on PBS.

Some of the participants in this Quest are Jack Canfield, Marci Shimoff, John Assaraf, T. Harv Eker and Sir Richard Branson.

The information in these two DVD’s is so powerful and inspiring that I made a commitment to create a workshop I’ve been dreaming about, Warriors Quest. The workshop will be base in indigenous and shamanic practices and experiences that will assist the participants to find and embrace their warrior roots. Once these roots are rediscovers the participants will be infused with their own inner and mental strength.

The learning’s will be is truly transformational and can be applied to all aspects of your everyday life.

I’ll have the rough outline will done in 7 to 10 days. Then I’ll find a location(s), probably Bend, OR, Sedona, AZ and Hawaii.

In the meantime, check out the movies…you’ll be inspired as well.

To Your Inner Strength,
Gregg
