Objective of this Mental Strength Tip:

To help you see that mistakes are an important aspect of learning and growing and achieving your personal success.

Without mistakes there could be no personal growth.  Mistakes can be seen as valuable resources in assisting you in achieving your personal goals.

Let’s Get Started:

“…We need to be able—and this is a really tough one—to think more in the long-term and less in the short-term, to not always see failure as a waste of time, but sometimes as a risk that can lead to success. We must really look at our own and others’ efforts and accomplishments and not let reputations—good or bad—rest solely on past deeds. And finally, we need to man up and take real responsibility when things go wrong, rather than mouthing insincere platitudes or ignoring the problem altogether…”

Better By Mistake – Alina Tugend

Questions to Uncover Beliefs about Mental Strength Thinking:

  • Have you been open with others about the mistakes you have made in the past?
  • Do you see how removing fear and judgment will allow you to share your mistakes and insights gained with others?
  • How would you help others and empower them to share their mistakes and wisdom?

Unsupportive Beliefs about Mistakes

  • If I admit mistakes I’ll not achieve my personal success
  • Mistakes make me look bad and no one will trust me.
  • Mistakes are embarrassing and prevent me my reaching my personal goals.

Mental Strength Beliefs about Mistakes

  • Making mistakes is human and everyone makes them, it’s what you do after that determines if you reach your personal success.
  • Making mistakes means taking chances and moving forward.
  • If you’re not making mistakes you’re not taking enough risks towards your personal goals.

Outrageous Questions:

  • Why are you afraid to make and share mistakes with others?
  • Were you ever reprimanded for admitting mistakes?
  • Are you sharing your mistakes often enough to help you and others grow and learn from them?

Reflective Questions:

  • What percentage of the time do you share your mistakes with others?
  • What would it take to overcome your fear of making mistakes so that you can reach personal success?
  • As your virtual success coach, how can I help you surmount your fear of making and sharing mistakes?

Mental Strength Coaching:

Like many pieces of the mental strength coaching puzzle, reconditioning you that it’s OK to make mistakes and share them is positive and part of achieve personal success will take time…be patient.

I want to inspire you to transcend average thinking that is fear based and move into mental strength thinking of top achievers that is based in love, abundance and gratitude.

Remember, if you’re really good at your craft, you will always be in demand, no matter how many mistakes you think you make.

Final Thought

Because most people are ‘average thinking’ with their thought process and philosophies rooted deeply in fear and scarcity, you may have to try several different strategies and tactics to raise your level of thinking to that of top achieves.

Covering up mistakes is something most of us learned during childhood, so it’s more than just an habitual thought process, it’s conditioned into us.

Be sure to recognize and acknowledge your fear in this area, as well as the fact that this type of thinking worked for you at some level.

Remember to that in mental strength thinking, survival is only the booby prize.  The objective here is to develop a courageous mindset that thunders down the track like a locomotive speeding toward you personal goals and personal success.

This Warrior Mind Podcast is based on Mental Strength Tip #44 – Enthusiasm and Personal Success.Warrior Mind Podcast

This Warrior Mind Podcast is to help you understand the benefits of the mental strength attribute of enthusiasm and its immense impact on your subconsciousness mind for reaching your personal goals and achieving your personal success.

“Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.” -  Ralph Waldo Emerson

Enthusiasm originally meant inspiration or possession by a divine presence.  Johnson’s Dictionary, the first comprehensive dictionary of the English language, defines enthusiasm as “a vain belief of private revelation; a vain confidence of divine favor or communication.” In current English vernacular the word simply means intense enjoyment, interest, or approval.

Originally, an enthusiast was a person possessed by a god. Applied by the Greeks to manifestations of divine possession, by Apollo (as in the case of the Pythia), or by Dionysus (as in the case of the Bacchantes and Maenads), the term enthusiasm was also used in a transferred or figurative sense. Socrates taught that the inspiration of poets is a form of enthusiasm.

Who Ever You Think You Are, You're More Powerful Then That

Enthusiasm is the magic ingredient that can

  • Help you persuade others
  • Sharpen your mind
  • Improve your problem-solving abilities
  • Overcome your fears
  • Make your job more rewarding
  • Build self-confidence
  • Calm your tensions
  • Give you insight into your problems
  • Kindle the powerful motivation that makes things happen

Enthusiasm is natural and it can also be activated by programming your mind.  The subconscious mind simply responds to consciousness programming and does not have the ability to judge whether something is natural of self-created.

Make no mistake, enthusiasm can be coached and it can be programmed.  Stay strong if you think you don’t or can’t get enthusiasm.

Sometimes all a person needs is an awakening to their own personal power to able to light the fire of enthusiasm.

“Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm.” -  Winston Churchill

I was recently reading a story about a gentleman that attended a convention back in 1918…well actually he called it a mental strength controlbanquet. Here’s the segment, I think you’ll find this pretty interesting…

“I attended a banquet of inventors recently. Each inventor gave a short talk on something he thought would be accomplished in the future. Many very much-needed things were spoken of. One inventor spoke of the possibilities of wireless telephone. Distance, he said, would shortly be annihilated. He thought we would soon be able to talk to the man in the submarine forty fathoms below the surface and a thousand miles away. When he got through he asked if there were any that doubted what he said. No one spoke up.

This was not a case of tactful politeness, as inventors like to argue, but a case where no one present really doubted that the inventor’s vision would, in the future, materialize.

These shrewd men, some real geniuses, all thought we would in time be able to talk to those a thousand miles away without media. Now, if we can make an instrument so wonderful that we can send wireless messages a thousand miles, is there any reason why we should not through mental control transmit messages from one person to another?”

Pretty amazing don’t you think?

For one, back in 1918 a few individuals already had the vision of the cell phone. Then they also had the comprehension that the cell phone was no different from using our mental strength and focus to communicate, without words, to each other.

In fact the cell phone, in many respects is harder and more cumbersome for communication than that of projected thought.

I believe that someday business will look at how well a person can send out “influences.” These influences will be so dominating that others will be partly inspired by them. Then the business will grow and profit by the use these mental strength powers and depend on them to draw all resources required to achieve their goals.

Of course, this really happens now on a personal level. You are constantly sending out suggestions to your coworkers, family and friends…but what type are they? Empowering or disempowering?

We all are receiving these messages unconsciously and if yours are coming from your soul, yours will be received “stronger” than others.

This is being done today in business. Look at Apple, Google, etc. They are finely organized companies that secure and combine the talents of all their employees.

Sure, each person may have a different and unique role, but the synergistic effect manifests amazing results.

The whole atmosphere of the company is impregnated with a high standard of excellence. Everyone feels they must do their best. A person could not be in these surroundings and be satisfied with doing anything but their best work.

A business will succeed only to the extent that the efforts of all are coordinated towards one result. And at least one person is needed to direct and coordinate everyone toward the desired end. The person at the head doesn’t have to outline exactly what each person is to do, but they must possess the mental strength power of influence.

An influential business communication, i.e. e-mail, blog post, etc, is not written in a casual, commonplace way, instead the writer tries to convey something they think the receiver will be interested to knowing or finding more about.

In this way the message awakens a responsive spirit. Sometimes just the addition of a word or two will change a message from a matter-of-fact style to one that compels and inspires a response. It’s not always what that actual words are in the message, but the spirit which it breathes that brings results.

“That intangible something that defies analysis is the projected thought of the master that brings back the harvest that it claims.”

Personal success isn’t just for you, you have family and friends that desire to reach their personal goals and personal success right?

Well, if you’d like to assist your friends or family with their personal success simply use your mental strength and picture them being successful.

If they have a weakness of some kind, imagine it as being strengthened; think of their shortcomings, which belong to their negative nature, as being replaced by positive qualities. Take a certain part of the day to send them supportive thoughts.

By doing this you will “awaken” their mental strength powers and bring them “online.” And once awakened they’ll begin to assert themselves on the persons thinking.

You Can Accomplish Much More!

We can manifest and accomplish much more than most of us are ready to believe by sending to others our direct, positive and influencing suggestions of personal success. To some extent whether a person achieves their personal success is significantly determined by the way they act on the suggestions they receive.

We are either advancing towards our personal goals or retreating from them. We never stand still. Every time we accomplish something it gives us ability to do greater things.

The bigger the attempt (goal), the greater the things will be accomplished in the future. As a business grows, the head of the business also has to grow. They must advance and be the ever guiding influence. By their power to influence, they inspire confidence in those they associated with.

Through your mental strength power you can generate in others enthusiasm and the spirit of success, which then will inspire them to take on great personal goals.

In concentrated mental control, there is a latent power more potent than physical force. When you become of this “attitude” of the mind you have access to the power of controlling, directing and governing other forces. You will have a mental strength mindset that will assist you in reaching your personal goals and achieving personal success.

All of us no matter how mentally strong we are, are affected by the mental forces of our environment. There is no one that can remain neutral these influences. The mind cannot be freed from the forces the surroundings.

If the environment of your place of business is not helpful, it will be harmful. That is why the environment, i.e. feng shui, is so important.

You Can’t Live Alone

No person was ever intended to live alone. If you isolate yourself and only be with your own thoughts you suffer from mental starvation. The mind and thinking become narrow; the mental powers weaken.

Living alone often causes some of the milder forms of insanity. If children do not play with those their own age, but associate with only older people, they will take on the actions of the older people.

The same is true of older persons if they associate with people younger than they are. They take on the spirit of youth. If you wish to retain your youth you need the energy and influences of youth.

Like attracts like all over the world.

The thought element plays a great part in our lives. To be successful in your business or career you must not only know and use your physical environment, but you must also know and use our thought environment…your mental strength. There must be co-ordination of thought (internal) with the environment (external).

If you are an employer, you should aim to secure employees that think along similar lines. They will work in fuller sympathy with each other. They will better understand each other. This enables them to help each other, which would be utterly impossible if they were not in sympathy with each other.

It is this that goes to make up an effective and efficient organization, which in turn directs and influences them toward a single objective.

Instead of each person being a separate unit, each one is like a spoke in a big wheel. Each member carries his own load, and he would not think of shirking. Anyone working in such an atmosphere could not help turning out their best work.

All great leaders must be able to inspire this co-operative spirit. They first secure the resources required through their mental strength control. They then make the value of this mental strength control known to the individuals they have attracted.

Soon there is a close bond between them; they are working toward a single purpose. They profit by their combined effort. The result is that they accomplish much.

If your business is conducted in the right spirit, you can infuse your thoughts and your ideas into your employees. Your methods and ideas become theirs. They don’t know it, but your mental forces are shaping their work. They are just as certain to produce results as any physical force in nature.

The successful business person is going to take pains to assist their employees to think and reason better. Hey will not want them to become robots and non-thinking, this will lead to depression and discouragement.

A successful business person will endeavor to have their employees use their concentrated mental strength effort; this will lead to a mutual benefit and be profitable to both employer and employed. When there is more of this type of spirit in the workplace, there will be more happy employees and profitable business.

This is way personality assessments like DISC, Myers Briggs and CRG are so important, they help the business determine if the perspective employee has the “right” attitude to be a good team member.

Bad Company

You must realize that every moment spent in thinking of your difficulties of the past, every moment spent in bad company is attracting to you all that is bad; is attracting influences that must be shaken off before you can move forward.

Many firms prefer to hire employees that never worked there before so that they have nothing to unlearn. They are then not trained, but have no bad business habits to overcome. They are more easily guided and grasp the new methods more effectively because they are not contrary to what they have already learned.

They are at once started on the right road, and as they co-operate readily they receive the mental strength support of the management in learning the methods that have been perfected. This inspires confidence in themselves and they soon become efficient and, finally, skilled team members.

Most big business firms today employ efficiency experts. Each day or week they are in a different department. They earn their money because they familiarize persons with very little business experience with plans that has taken the “expert” years of training and much money to perfect.

The attitude we take has a great deal more to do with our success than most of us realize. We must be able to generate those mental forces that are helpful and supportive. There is a wonderful power in the thought rightly controlled and projected and we must through concentration develop this power to the fullest possible extent.

We are surrounded by many forces of which we know but little at present. Our knowledge of these forces is being expanded almost daily. Each year we learn more about these psychic forces which are full of possibilities of which we are not even dimly conscious. We must believe in mental control, learn more about it, and use it, if we want to command these higher powers and forces which will unquestionably direct the lives of countless future generations.

Step 4 – Building the Self-Confidence of a Champion mental strength in sports

Consistent top athletic performers have a strong level of self-confidence. They never stop believing in themselves.  This self-confidence creates an almost intimidating sense of presence.

When a top athletic performer shows up, you know it!  They aren’t bragging or strutting around like a peacock, they just have this vibe about them.

Self confidence is the fuel for success.

Here, let me tell you a story…

“During a momentous battle, a Japanese general decided to attack even though his army was greatly outnumbered. He was confident they would win, but his men were filled with doubt. On the way to the battle, they stopped at a religious shrine. After praying with the men, the general took out a coin and said, “I shall now toss this coin. If it is heads, we shall win. If tails, we shall lose. Destiny will now reveal itself.”

He threw the coin into the air and all watched intently as it landed. It was heads. The soldiers were so overjoyed and filled with self-confidence that they vigorously attacked the enemy and were victorious. After the battle, a lieutenant remarked to the general, “No one can change destiny.”

“Quite right,” the general replied as he showed the lieutenant the coin, which had heads on both sides“

This represents the power of self-confidence!

When it comes to achieving your peak athletic performance, the only thing that matters is if you believe in you.

There’s a long distance swimmer Jim “The Shark” Dryer that perfectly depicts how important belief in yourself is.

You can take a look at Jim Dryer story here

http://static.record-eagle.com/2007/mar/25dreyer.htm

Self-confidence is developed; you are not born with it.  It takes a focused and concretive effort using your mental strength to develop self-confidence.

I’ve written others post on this topic and today I’m going to go over a few other mental strength practices that are extremely effective at developing and maintaining self-confidence.

4 Mental Strength Tips To Develop A Self-Confidence Mindset

1 – Pay Your Physical Dues: If you want to perform like a champion you must first train like a champion.  You must put in the physical training first.  You have to pay your physical dues before we can even begin to talk about developing the self-confidence required for peak performance.

This part takes hard work, long training practices and even extra curriculum activities.  You must prepare your body first to do the work so that it (your body) will follow your thoughts for peak performance.

Let me tell you, nothing worth doing is accomplishing without hard work.

Do this, when you are at practice think about what your competition is doing and then do more.

If you’re not willing to pay your dues, and then some, get out now.

If, however, you’re ready to push yourself physically and mentally to reach peak athletic performance building self-confidence is essential.

2 – Find The Things Your Do Right: Starting today I want you to catch yourself and acknowledge all the things you are doing right, specifically sport wise. During your training, practice and at the end of the day purposely look for all the things you did right today.

We live in a negative oriented world and there are more than enough people out there that will be more than happy to point all the things you are doing wrong.  And many of them already do without even asking you!

They’ll point out how you caught that difficult pass for a touchdown, but you dropped the easy one over the middle.

They’ll tell you that you “lost” the race when you turned in a personal best record.

If you want to develop rock solid self-confidence you’ve got to take control of your focus and look for all the things you are doing right.

I know you’re probably saying “I can always to better right?”  “I can always improve.”  This type of thinking is trap that nothing is good enough!

With this mindset you’ll be robbing yourself the opportunity to feel good about you and your performance.   If you don’t look for the things you are doing good you will always feel lousy about yourself and this will lead to low self-confidence.

Here’s what I want you to do, beginning today I want you to start keeping a success journal and keep only positive comments and observations in it.

By the end of every day find 10 things you did well during practice, training or your game.  I want to find 10 things every day!  And keep this up even though your inner critic you’ll provide comments to the contrary.  Tell it “thank you for sharing” and keep writing down the 10 positive things from training that day.

Then one day you’ll feel your confidence lagging take out your success journal and look at all the positive things you have accomplished!

This will give a shot in the arm and boost in your self-confidence.

3 – Don’t Play The Comparison Game: Do not compare yourself to anyone else…you will always loss.  There is always someone out there better.  If there isn’t, you’ll be looking over your shoulder for the person after you.

Compare your results to you…you set your standard, and then beat it!

When you compare, you think the other person is better than you and you are much too hard on yourself and your self-confidence diminishes.

You leave yourself vulnerable when you compare yourself to others and if and when you have to compete against that person you’ll get siked out and intimated.

Let me tell you another story…

There was a samurai, a very proud warrior and he came to see a Zen Master one day. The samurai was very famous, but looking at the beauty of the Master and the Grace of the moment, he suddenly felt inferior.

He said to the Master, “Why am I feeling inferior? Just a moment ago everything was okay. As I entered your court suddenly I felt inferior. I have never felt like that before. I have faced death many times, and I have never felt any fear — why am I now feeling frightened?”

The Master said, “Wait. When everyone else has gone, I will answer. “

People continued the whole day to come and see the Master, and the samurai was getting more and more tired waiting. By evening the room was empty, and the samurai said, “Now, can you answer me?”

The Master said, “Come outside.”

It was a full moon night; the moon was just rising on the horizon. And he said, “Look at these trees. This tree is high in the sky and this small one beside it. They both have existed beside my window for years, and there has never been any problem. The smaller tree has never said to the big tree, ‘Why do I feel inferior before you?’ This tree is small, and that tree is big — why have I never heard a whisper of it?”

The samurai said, “Because they can’t compare.”

The Master replied, “Then you need not ask me. You know the answer.”

Give up the comparison habit.  Only hold yourself accountable to your results.

Here too I want you to write down (not in your success journal) how many comparisons thoughts you have each day for 10-days….really…write them down.  You see, awareness is the first step to change. And you by noticing and writing down the comparison thoughts they will soon stop.

4 – Affirmations:  Say empowering things to yourself all the time.  You become what you think about.  The topics of your conversations become the themes of your life, in this case your athletic life.

Take several 3×5 index cards and write on them how you want to feel during competition.

Then, place them around your house, the bathroom, the refrigerator, your car and even in your gear bag.

Your unconsciousness mind picks up and “sees” all these signs.   This is the same principle as advertising.  Only this time you’re self-advertising about what you really want!

Be patient with this and begin to look for the small changes and when you see them, acknowledge them.

Here’s another great mental strength technique. Before you go to sleep think of one aspect of your performance you want to change, i.e. I want to feel calm and relaxed.

Now, in your bed lie on your back with your arms to your side palms down. Then repeat the affirmation slowly and at the same time press your pinky down and visualize yourself performing like you want (calmed and relaxed).

Then, do it again, this time press your ring finger.  Keep doing this for 20 times keeping track with your fingers

If you fall asleep that’s fine.

The time just before you fall asleep is a very powerful time to reprogram your mind so make use of it.

Select one aspect of your performance your want to change and this exercise for a week and then switch.

Self-confidence for peak performance is created by hard work ethic, catching yourself doing the right things, self-advertising.

Self-confidence and peak performance comes from using the above mental strength tips on a consistent and persistent basis.   Do the above for a month and watch for the changes in your self-confidence and athletic performance.

Take you mental strength training deeper by picking up a copy of “Mental Strength Training for Athletes” by going HERE.

It seems everyone and their grandmothers are constantly seeking the secrets to true personal success.  Since most power, purpose and passionindividuals have their own definition of what personal success is, there really is no one clear-cut formula.

There are however certain traits that are common in many high achievers.  The following are five mental strength tips that will help you live a life of power, purpose and passion…basically a successful life.

 1. Learn, Discard, And Create:

Learn what is useful, discard what is not and add what is uniquely your own.

All throughout our lives, we are educated and forced to learn things about society, people, religion, politics and life…all from someone else.

Many of these teachings will be of no use to you in creating your future. Keep what resonates with your Soul, that which you know will be good for you. Then, discard the disposable information; it will only tend to confuse your mind.

When you were younger and just starting out learning about math, reading, science, etc it was delivered in a “one size fits all” program.  Now that you have moved on from that style of learning is time to purge your mental cache.

It is up to you to determine which information supports you and your personal goals and which information does not.

Become a master at your craft.

Seek out the resources that are required for your personal success at your chosen profession. Then add a dash of uniqueness and make your life your own by adding your personality.

This way, you know that the knowledge you acquired, combined with application in real life, plus your additional perspective makes for a life lived with power, purpose and passion!

 2. Go Beyond Your Limitations:

Most high achievers were told that they couldn’t do it.  They were told they where too poor, too inexperienced, too unattractive, or too weak to achieve any sense of personal success.

Don’t let others limitations become your limitations!

Use your mental strength and learn to break down the barriers of your comfort zone.

Be open to change, possibilities and adventure!

Believe you can do it.

Remember, there is no failure only feedback.  Use your feedback to motivate yourself into doing more than you thought possible. Think powerful and positive thoughts.  These thoughts will lead to powerful and positive action that will help you break out of your self-imposed limitations and on to achieving your personal success.

3. Set Goals:

Have you ever gone through a phase in your life and realize that you don’t really have a goal? Feels like you’re just wandering around doesn’t it?

Always have personal goals you’re striving for. This serves as the itinerary of your life. Every major or minor decision you make should be geared towards the fulfillment of your personal goals.

Then, when you set your goals, be patient and be flexible. Don’t be discouraged by delays or minor setbacks…you have your entire life to reach them.  No success is lasting if it’s easy to get.

To be a truly successful person, your goals must not only be for your own benefit, but for the good of everyone in your life. And to really be successful, you must be in harmony with everyone else. No real success is borne out of the misery of others. Remember karma, you reap what you sow. Don’t step on anybody’s toes on your way to the top. It’s lonely being alone on your pedestal.

4. Create Your Own Destiny:

You are the master of your life – it’s no one else’s life but yours. In other words, you and only you can work towards your own success. If you rely on others to achieve your personal success you are not taking responsibility for your results.

Someone else is determining your destiny.

The simplest way to be accountable and responsible for creating your destiny is to follow your path with heart.  That is, to follow the reason why you are here!  If you need help with finding your path, check out The Warrior Quest.

When you use your mental strength and follow your path with heart, you have empowered yourself to live a life of destiny.

I said this is simplest way, not the easiest way.  Simple because once you’re on your path there are very few decisions to make.  Because of this, your life will not be easy.  Others might look at you as if you’ve lost your mind.

You can rest assured that when you are on your path you are creating your own destiny!

5. Have a Clear Conscience:

Have integrity. This is probably one of the most ignored aspects of success. What good is success if you achieved it in not-so-good ways? Always strive to be the best person you can possibly be.

Remember, that integrity is believing, thinking, speaking and acting all in the same way.

This will take mental strength and when you are aligned, that is, when you are in integrity, you will always have a clear conscience about all that you do.

This last tip is the tip that will give you inner and emotional strength and success. It’s the one which will give you peace of mind.

As Zig Ziglar said, “Money will buy you a good comfortable bed, but it will not buy you a good night’s sleep.”

These tips were meant as a starting point for you to begin to live a successful life…a life of power, purpose and passion!

Get started today on living YOUR successful life and join me at The Warriors Quest. This is a one of a kind experience that will absolutely change your life.

Welcome back to another Mental Strength Tip!agent of change for personal success

Achieving personal success and reaching your personal goals begins with a mental strength mindset of empowering beliefs.

Reaching your personal goals and personal success starts in your mind…and finishes with taking inspired and massive action.

This is one in a series of virtual success coaching and mental strength tips to help kick-start your week.  It is intended to enthuse and inspire you to take action so that you can reach your personal goals and personal success.

I take one mental strength tips and run though a brief overview of it, then ask some very direct success coaching questions.  The intention of this virtual success coaching session is for you to write and answer these questions in your success journal and then reflect on them to gain insight on yourself, your dreams and what’s holding you back.

These series of posts are for YOU!  If I’m not able to success coach you personally then I highly recommend picking up a copy of “Develop the Mental Strength of a Warrior.” It’s a book that will take you through the exact process to take back control of your thoughts so that you can live a life a power, purpose and passion with perseverance!

You can your copy now by going HERE.

Objective of this Mental Strength Tip:

To help you see yourself as a leader and as such as change agent.  One who is never satisfied with the status quo and is always moving toward your personal goals.

The virtual mental strength and success coaching session is to help you realize that you are either moving forward towards your personal success or slipping away from it, there is no standing still.

Let’s Get Started:

A change agent is someone who “alters human capability or organizational systems to achieve a higher degree of output or self actualization.” Beginning with the end in mind, the goal of a change agent is obviously to make changes that stick.

The result of change agent activity is to enable people to do more, or find a new and better perspective on life. Sometimes this latter idea is the foundation for future change which achieves outcomes that were previously not attainable.

Questions to Uncover Beliefs about Mental Strength Thinking:

  • What do you believe is your primary role as a leader and change agent?
  • Do you believe it’s more important to be liked or respected?
  • Do leaders have to be likable to gain cooperation from those they are leading?

Unsupportive Beliefs about Being a Change Agent:

  • A leader’s job is to manage people and keep them happy.
  • A good leader’s main role is to retain their people.
  • A good leader motivates through cheerleading.

Mental Strength Beliefs about Being a Change Agent:

  • A mentally strong leader gets feedback and then makes their decision for the good of the team.
  • Great change agents aren’t addicted to being popular.  They prefer it, but they aren’t addicted to it.
  • A change agent’s primary function is to being about change.

Outrageous Questions:

  • Based on your past results, have you been more interested in being popular or bringing about change?
  • Do you lead by consensus?
  • Is your leadership style more like a politician campaigning for votes of a football coach focused on winning?

Reflective Questions:

  • On a scale of 1-9, 9 being best, how good of a leader are you?
  • On a scale of 1-9, 9 being best, how good of a leader would your team say you are?
  • Why do you think it’s important for a leader to also be an agent of change?

Mental Strength Coaching:

Many managers have been promoted into their role without ever having led a team.

As a result of being promoted from the field, they often try to maintain the same relationship with the people they were once part of, in order to retain being liked.

My job as your virtual mental strength and personal success coach is to help you get out of your own way and step up to the plate as a true change agent focused on moving your team forward.

Remember this is huge shift in your mindset and will take mental strength and time.

Final Thought

Coaching people to become a real leader is the equivalent of coaching an adolescent into adulthood.

The adult doesn’t have the luxury of putting popularity before personal performance, and is often forced to make tough love decisions.

What I’m suggesting is for you to “grow up” and become a real leader who people will want to follow.

This will take commitment and sacrifice and it will be worth it.

This Warrior Mind Podcast is based on Mental Strength Tip #43 – Mindset, Expectations And Personal Success.Warrior Mind Podcast

This Warrior Mind Podcast is to help you understand and develop the mindset that you get what you expect and to urge you to use your mental strength and build your belief system of great expectations and intentions for personal success.

Quantum physics states that we are literally creating our reality and results directly from our thoughts.  Quantum theory suggests that everything at its core is energy, and energy can be manipulated by thought.

Energy flows were attention goes and results show.

If you expect something good to happen, mostly likely it will.  If you expect to reach your personal goals….you will.

“High achievement always takes place in the framework of high expectation.” – Charles Kettering

Who Ever You Think You Are, You're More Powerful Then That

Keep in mind that most people have never given much consideration to expectations and intentions and how it affects results. So it may take some time for this topic to sink in and take hold.  Use your mental strength and take it step by step, knowing that some people must experience personal success with a new idea before it becomes integrated into their belief system.

Our reality is what we believe to be true.

What we believe to be true is what we perceive.

What we perceive is what we expect.

What we expect is what we know.

What we know is what we believe to be true.

What we believe to be true is our reality.

“Through our paltry stir and strife, ideals for personal success

Glows the wished Ideal,

And longing molds in clay,

What life Carves in the marble real.”-Lowell.

Before we get into the post I’d let’s look at the word “ideal”

An ideal is a principle or value that one actively pursues as a goal. Ideals are particularly important in ethics, as the order in which one places them tends to determine the degree to which one reveals them as real and sincere. It is the application, in ethics, of a universal. It is roughly similar to the relative intrinsic values.”

Someone who claims to have an ideal of honesty but is willing to lie to protect a friend is demonstrating that not only does he hold friendship as an ideal, but, that it is a more important one than honesty. Thus ideals can be seen to be similar to values.

We often hear people referred to as idealists. The fact is we are all idealists to a certain extent, and depending on our mental strength and ideals we will either achieve our personal success or not.

You must have a mental image of your personal goal if you are to manifest its equivalent in the material world. Everything is first created in the mind. When you control your thoughts you become a co-creator. You receive inspired ideas and shape them to your individual needs.

All things of this world are to you just what you think they are. Your happiness and personal success depend upon your mental strength and ideals.

You are responsible for every condition and situation you go through, either consciously or unconsciously. What you do next, that is, how you respond to the circumstance, determines the succeeding step. Remember this; everything has within it a valuable lesson.

By using your mental strength and concentrate on each step as you move forward, you can save a lot of waste steps.  You will be able to choose a straighter path instead of a roundabout and convoluted road.

Concentrate Upon Your Ideals and They Will Become Material Actualities

Through mental strength and concentration we work out our ideals in our physical life.

Your future depends upon the ideals you are forming now. Your past ideals are determining your present and your present ideals are informing your future. Therefore, if you want a bright and successful future, you must begin to prepare for it today.

If people would realize that they can only harm themselves, that when they are apparently harming others they are really harming themselves, what a different world this would be!

When it is said that someone changes as much as the weather, what this really indicates it that the persons ideals change. Every time you change your ideal you think differently. You become like a rudderless boat on an ocean. Therefore realize the importance of holding to your ideal until it becomes a reality.

When you wake up in the morning determined that nothing will get to you, that nothing will cause you to choose to lose your temper. This is your ideal of a person of real mental strength and composure.

If something takes place that upsets you and you completely lose your temper, for that time being you have forgotten your ideal.

If you had just paused and took a deep breath and thought of what being a composed and mentally strong person implies you would have chosen not to become angry. You lose your poise when you forget your ideal.

Each time we allow our ideals to be shattered we also weaken our mental strength, concentration and will-power. Holding to your ideals develops mental strength and will-power.

Remember this!

Why So Many People Fail

Many people fail to reach their personal goals and achieve personal success because they don’t hold to their mental strength ideals until they become automatic. When they concentrate on their ideals to the exclusion of all other things they become a reality.

“I am that which I think myself to be.”

Many ideals are reflected to us from the unseen spirit. The laws of matter and spirit are not the same. One can be broken, but not the other. To the extent that your ideals are kept, your personal success is assured.

It was never intended that any one should suffer. A person has brought it upon themselves by disobeying the Laws of Nature. Not being aware of the law doesn’t mean it’s not there.  A person cannot plead ignorance.

So why does, or would, people break them?

Because…they do not pay attention to the ideals that are revealed to them from Infinite Spirit.

Life is but one continuous unfoldment.  You can be happy every step of the way or miserable; it all depends upon how you entertain those silent whisperings that come from beyond us.

We cannot hear them with the physical ear, but from the silence they come as if they were dreams. These whispers come to everyone who has the mental strength to be silent and listen for them.

So don’t look for these higher ideals with your consciousness mind, but go within, into your Soul and where they will be discovered and revealed.

This will require hours and the use of concentration.  Be consistent and persistent in your process. You will need to use your mental strength to stay the course.

No person ever gets to the top of a mountain by wishing themselves to the top

They must climb it!

No person gets out of the rut of dull, tiresome, monotonous life by merely wishing himself out of the rut. He must climb out.

If you are standing still, or going backward in life, there is something wrong. You are responsible for moving forward towards your personal goals, you and you alone!

Don’t be mentally weak and think that you are neglected, or not understood, or not appreciated.

These are thoughts of failure.

Use your mental strength, concentrate on your supportive ideals and think hard about the fact that any person who has achieved their personal success took action and worked for it.

Don’t pity or criticize yourself….enthuse yourself.

You know that the only thing in the world that you have got to count on is yourself.

Step 3 – Mastering Negative Thinking and Self Doubtmental strength

As you begin your mental strength training you will run into situations that will test you mentally, especially at crunch time…these are negative thinking and self doubts.

In this post I’m going to go over two strategies and specific tactics to help with each strategy.

The two strategies will address:

  1. Negativity before event.  This will address how you handle negative thinking over the course of your season that will help you in your athletic performance.
  1. Neutralizing negative thinking and self-doubt immediately before and during a competition. This will address what do you when you’re flooded with negative thinking before and during my event so that you can reach your peak performance.

Being negative feels like you got the flu.  You feel blah, lack of energy, the world looks gray and you just don’t care. You have a “why bother” attitude.

Negativity thinking and self-doubt leads to failure and quitting.

There is an unbreakable mind-body connection.  What you think about will show up in your body.  If you are thinking that you’ll perform badly, your body will respond to this commend and your performance will suffer.

This can be best explained as GIGO (garbage in – garbage out).  Garbage in, your negative thinking and self-doubt, will lead to garbage out, a poor athletic performance.

The main difference between elite athletes and the rest is the elite athletes don’t entertain the negative thinking…they know they can’t afford the luxury of a negative thought.

They don’t get down on themselves. Sure they get unsupportive thoughts, but they have trained themselves how to use them to their advantage.

Negative thinking has no place for top athletic performance. It’s a set-up for failure.

Get out of the habit of being negative.  Nothing ever good comes out of being negative…nothing!

Get into the habit of being positive and thinking supportive thoughts.  Negative and positive thinking are just habits and you can decide which habit you want to build.

Shake It Off And Step Up

Let me tell you a little story…

There was a farmer who had an old mule. The mule fell into a deep dry well and began to cry loudly. Hearing his mule cry, the farmer came over and assessed the situation. The well was deep and the mule was heavy. He knew it would be difficult, if not impossible, to lift the animal out.

Because the mule was old and the well was dry, the farmer decided to bury the animal in the well. In this way he could solve two problems: put the old mule out of his misery and have his well filled.

He called upon his neighbors to help him and they agreed to help. To work they went. Shovel full of dirt after shovel full of dirt began to fall on the mule’s back. He became hysterical. Then all of a sudden an idea came to the mule.

Each time they would throw a shovel full of dirt on his back he could shake it off and step up. Shovel full after shovel full, the mule would shake it off and step up. Now exhausted and dirty, but quite alive, the mule stepped over the top of the well and walked through the crowd.

This is how you can handle a negative thought, a bad practice or poor sports performance…you just shake it off and step up.

Way too often we hold on to what has happened to us.

We hold on to it for a week, a month, even years. We cannot shake it loose from our memory. It eats away at us and steals our enthusiasm for the game.

We keep allowing these emotions to be thrown on our backs and if we do nothing, we will be buried deep in the well.

It takes character to stay positive, it takes mental strength, and it takes guts!

So…how do you stay positive?

Below are the two strategies I mentioned at the beginning of the post.  Follow these and you’ll be well on your way to “shaking it off and stepping up.”

Regular Daily Training:

Here we’re going to over several tactics that you can do during your practice and daily activities.  Please be patience with the follow…give yourself at least one month.

Assignment One – Investigative Reporting

Spend one week being an investigative reporter.  What are you going to investigate? Your negative thinking.  Pay very close attention to all the practice and performance self-talk…even during your non sport times.

Keep a journal of all your negative responses to certain situations, especially sports related.

If you think this sounds crazy or difficult, think of this as your “Art of War” and your negative thoughts is your enemy that is trying to infiltrate your mind.  The more you know about your enemy the better you can prepare your defense and offense.

Assignment Two – Count Your Thoughts

After you have successfully completed the above task, now simply count all the negative thoughts that go on while you’re practicing.  Pick a five-minute time-frame and count all the negative thoughts.

You’ll find that just by counting them, they’ll stop.

What you want here is to do is develop an awareness of when, where, why and how these negative thoughts creep into your thinking that will eventually affect your athletic performance.

Assignment Three – Lawyer For The Defense Exercise

Most native thinking and self-doubt starts with a trigger, let’s label this letter “A.”  This trigger then leads to limiting beliefs about your capabilities; let’s label this letter “B.”  This in turn leads to consequences, i.e. poor athletic performance; we’ll label this letter “C.”

Most athletes stop here, not you!

What I want you to do is find all the opposing reasons to discredit the negative thinking and self-doubt.  I want you to defend yourself.  This will be labeled with the letter “D.”

Once you have successfully defended yourself you’ll feel energized and motivated, this is the letter “E”

So the process will look like this:

A = Negative Start with a trigger

B = Negative beliefs

C = Consequences

D = Defense – present info tons of contrary info that will discount the negative thoughts and self-talk

E = feeling energized and motivated

I want you to daily defend yourself!

Assignment Four – Thought Stopping

The instant you notice that you’re having a negative thought yell to yourself “Stop!”  Then take a slow deep breath in.  Then when you exhale imagine the negative thought being blown out with your breath.

Then as soon as you have exhaled, replace the thought with a thought that is 180 degrees opposite of it, a more supportive and empowering thought and return to the task at hand.

Tactics Before The Event

  • Thought stopping technique (the same one as above).
  • Wear an elastic band around wrist negative thought – snap it every time you have a negative thought and replace with a positive thought.
  • Use an “interrupt” word, i.e. stop, cancel, no thanks, etc to stop the negative thoughts and then replace with the opposite and supportive thought.
  • Make a mark or picture on your equipment that symbolizes the stopping of negative thoughts and then refocusing, i.e. a smile face, red dot, stop sign, etc.
  • Write down the negative thoughts that are bothering you on a piece of paper and then destroy the paper, seeing all those thoughts being destroyed as well.
  • Share your self doubts with a coach, either your sports coach or a mental strength coach to get a supportive outside perspective.
  • In your imagination see the negative thoughts written on a blackboard, now see yourself going up to the blackboard and erasing all the thoughts.
  • Use a volume control to turn down the volume on the voice that is telling you all the negative thoughts.
  • Play circus music at the same time the negative thoughts are running around your head.
  • Sing the negative thoughts to yourself as if you were an opera singer.  If you have a bad voice this will really put a stop to them.

Now What?

OK…so you’ve been practicing your mental strength skills but what do you when immediately before an event you get an army of ANT’s (automotive negative thoughts) that won’t quite?

You try everything to stop them and worse yet, you start to believe them.

One after another the negative thoughts acclimate like thunder clouds and you can’t even get one ray of sunshine (a positive thought) in there.

You say to yourself, “Oh no…this is wrong…I’m not supposed to have these thoughts, I’ve been practicing, what’s wrong with me?”

This type of thinking leads to a panic state and this creates a poor athletic performance.

Well let me tell you, every athlete, yes every athlete….even top performers, suffers from this at one time or another.

The difference is the top performers don’t let the negative thoughts bother them. They don’t invite them into stay awhile by focusing on them.  They go out there and perform up to and even surpass their capabilities.

How Top Performers Think

  1. They know this is normal and they use it as a signal that they are ready.
  2. They don’t jump into the content of the conversation; they don’t give the thought any meaning just like they are a foreign language

It’s just like sitting high above a river…you don’t get wet unless you jump in.  If the water is cool and clean and you jump in you’ll feel great (positive thoughts).

If the water is polluted and you jump in you’ll feel like crap (negative thoughts).

You see, your mind is like a river meandering around, it can be cool and clean (positive thoughts) or it can be dirty and polluted (negative thoughts).

When negative thoughts come along don’t jump in.  Instead use them as a signet to focus on your performance cues.

Basically you want to back away from the thought.

Before or during an event don’t get into a fight with the thought and don’t try to think the opposite.  Just notice the thought and use it as a signal to refocus.  Just take a deep breathe in, breath out the negative thought and refocus on your performance cues.

When you have become proficient at practice and controlling your negative thinking and knowing that every athlete gets pre-game jitters, you have the resources to correct and continue and turn in a peak athletic performance.

Welcome back to another Mental Strength Tip!self expression for personal success

If I’m not able to success coach you personally then I highly recommend picking up a copy of “Develop the Mental Strength of a Warrior. It’s a book that will take you through the exact process to take back control of your thoughts so that you can live a life a power, purpose and passion with perseverance!

You can your copy now by going HERE.

Objective of this Mental Strength Tip:

To help you understand the difference in motivation by proving yourself and expressing yourself to achieve your personal goals and personal success.

“The desire for self-expression afflicts people when they feel there is something of themselves which is not getting through to the outside world.” – Fay Weldon

Let’s Get Started:

Self-expression comes from the Soul; where as proving yourself comes from an unhealthy ego.  When you are motivated to use your business or career as a form of self-expression in achieving your personal goals, your personal success will be assured…and you’ll have more fun.

Questions to Uncover Beliefs about Mental Strength Thinking:

  • Have you ever been motivated by the desire to prove yourself?
  • Are you trying to prove yourself to anyone right now?
  • Have you ever gained lasting satisfaction by proving yourself to someone else?

Unsupportive Beliefs about Self-Expression

  • Self-expression is for artists.
  • When I’m able to prove myself I’ll be successful and happy
  • I don’t have any specific personal goal, but I know when I have proved myself.
  • I’ll feel inadequate until I prove myself.

Mental Strength Beliefs about Self-Expression

  • I don’t need to prove anything to feel worthy.
  • Self-expression is the highest level of living.
  • Self-expression is living a life of power, purpose and passion.

Outrageous Questions:

  • Are you out to prove or express yourself, especially with achieving your personal goals and personal success?
  • Do you know the difference between proving and expressing?
  • Are you more ego-driven or Soul-directed?

Reflective Questions:

  • What percentage of time do you operate from an ego-driven consciousness compared to a Soul-directed consciousness?
  • Would your closest friends and family agree with you?
  • Is your primary way of think, i.e. coming from ego vs. Soul, helping you get closer to your personal goals and personal success?

Mental Strength Coaching:

Like many of the other mental strength questions in these virtual success coaching sessions, the ego/Soul question must be asked on a regular basis, no matter how successful you think you are.

Proving vs. expressing is just on component of this concept.  The overall goal is to condition you to constantly analyze your thinking as well as to discover what is at the root of your thinking.

These virtual success coaching session are intended to be the catalyst in this process, and most likely will be the only opportunity you’ll have at shifting your thinking, unless you coach with me personally.

Final Thought

Moving from ego-driven to Soul-direct to express yourself, instead of trying to prove yourself, is challenging at times. This shift in thinking will not happen overnight.  Please be patient and persistent knowing that when you succeed, you have altered your destiny forever!

Get started today on creating this shift and request your Introductory Consultation by going HERE.
