If you are sure you are right, don’t worry about what the world thinks.

If you are ever to achieve personal success in your life, you must be willing to stand apart from the crowd. Success is something that is achieved by the minority, not the majority, of people. As you climb the ladder of success you may mental strengthdiscover that there are a few who, out of jealousy or envy, will disparage your achievements.

If you have the mental strength and courage of your convictions, nothing can discourage you from your mission. You develop a warrior mindset of confidence in your beliefs by doing your own personal development, mental strength thinking and by constantly testing and revising your knowledge.   I suggest looking into W. Clement Stone’s R2A2 Principle to Recognize and Relate, Assimilate and Apply information from any field to help solve your problems and direct your thinking….adapt and continue.

As you adapt and continue you’ll discover something about yourself…you’ll discover your hidden assets.

Here’s what Dr. Napoleon Hill says about using your hidden assets.

“Each of us has locked within us all that is necessary to achieve wealth and greatness. It’s merely a matter of learning to use these hidden assets, of investing them so to speak, so we can cash in on them.

The tragic thing is that so many go through life without ever putting them to use. Sometimes, trouble and adversity is necessary to make people use their resourcefulness and brain power to achieve success.

A bookkeeper lost his job as Christmas was approaching. He had no money to buy his 10-year-old son a gift. Instead of merely despairing, he went to work making the boy a gift.

Using two wheels from a discarded baby carriage, a few pieces of lumber from the basement, and some bright red paint, he constructed a toy that captured the attention of the entire neighborhood.

Other children wanted similar toys. The demand grew so fast that the unemployed bookkeeper turned his basement into a factory, then moved his production to a real industrial plant.

The toy the bookkeeper designed was called the “scooter.”

Or consider the case of a soldier returned from World War I. He had been a salesman before the war but was not unemployed. He used his hidden assets too. He took a chunk of ice cream, stuck a stick in it for a handle, dipped it in chocolate covering—and the Eskimo Pie was born!

Then there was a young man working as a filling station helper in Dallas. The work was hard, hours long, pay short—all adding up to a state of mind I call “constructive discontentment.”

The young man began selling for a publisher of children’s books. But instead of approaching parents, he made friends with school teachers and got their permission to tell the children in class about his books.

Then he would ask the children to arrange an appointment with their parents so he could sell them the books. The plan worked wonderfully and the last time I saw the young man he was preparing to go into the publishing business for himself.

Have you searched carefully for any “hidden” resources you’ve overlooked simply because they weren’t in some form you could bank immediately?

Have you some plan or idea which might prove of great value if you brought it into the open and put it to use?

A very successful man once gave this splendid formula for gaining wealth.

“Get some useful item that will bring repeat sales,” said he. “Then put everything you have into taking it to the millions of people who need it.”

His name was F. W. Woolworth. He didn’t create anything new. He merely took something old and gave it a new method of sales distribution.

The opportunities our country offers today are greater than ever—and growing constantly. Think, for example, of the millions to be made by someone who devises some simple method of reducing traffic accidents.

Somewhere you have unused assets. Put them to work for you and make yourself financially independent.” – Source: Success Unlimited. December 1966, pp. 33-34.

Did you notice that the individuals ‘hidden assets’ where discovered under adversity?  This is main principles of developing mental strength, to seek out ‘resistance’ so that you can train your mind (and discover your hidden assets).  If life was easy we would never find our hidden assets or build our personal empowerment.

We must have resistance, struggle and adversity in order to grow!

What’s one situation that at first seemed ‘bad’ or ‘negative’ that actually uncovered a hidden asset or helped with your mindset?  Let me know in the comments below.

It’s a physical impossibility for a negative mind to create positive thoughts. Whenever you permit yourself to focus on the negative elements of life, negative thinking grows to fill all of your thoughts until there’s no space for positive thoughts to develop. It becomes a never-ending cycle. The habit of negative thinking produces increasingly more negative thoughts, which your mind attempts to transform into physical reality.

The effect is certainly a life of despair as well as hopelessness. Cultivate the mental strength practice of clearing away negative thoughts the second they surface. Begin small at first. When you initially hear that inner voice saying, “I can’t do this,” put the thought out of your mind instantly. Instead, focus on the task itself. Break it down into workable pieces and finish them one at a time. Once the task is completed, tell your doubting self: “You were completely wrong. I can do it, and I did!”  Now you’re on the road to personal success.

Now that you’re on the road to personal success and peak performance, what are you going to do on the way and when you “arrive?”

Are you going to buy a new car, perhaps a house?  Maybe invest the money?  What ever you decide I would like to suggest that sharing your abundance is one of the best avenues for personal development.

Here’s what Napoleon Hill says about the “Willingness to Share One’s Blessings:”

“He who has not learned the blessed art of sharing has not learned the true path of happiness, for happiness comes only by sharing. And let it be forever remembered that all riches may be embellished and multiplied by the simple process of sharing them where they may serve others. And let it be also remembered that the space one occupies in the hearts of his fellowmen is determined precisely by the service he renders through some form of sharing his blessings.

Riches which are not shared, whether they be material riches or the intangibles, wither and die like the rose on a severed stem, for it is one of Nature’s first laws that inaction and disuse lead to decay and death, and this law applies to the material possessions of men just as it applies to the living cells of every physical body”.Source: The Master-Key to Riches. Fawcett Crest Book. 1965, pg. 22.

Even when we haven’t reached our personal success destination we would be wise to share whatever we have.  If you read the above again carefully Dr. Hill never mentions money, but rather “blessings.”  Blessings can take many forms and be shared in a mutilated of ways.

  • Do have a good voice?  Read a book for the audio library for the blind
  • Have lots of energy?   Share it with the Special Olympics
  • Good with your hands?  Share that with Habitat for Humanity

We all have an abundance of blessings that we can share.  Sure our blessings can include money and wealth but if we put all our attention on money as blessing, we’ll miss all the other blessings in our life.

As Bruce Lee once said …” It is like a finger pointing away to the moon. Don’t concentrate on the finger or you will miss all that heavenly glory.

Here’s the “Creed for Riches” from Dr. Napoleon Hill

“I give thanks daily, not for mere riches, but for wisdom with which to recognize, embrace, and properly use the great abundance of riches I now have at my command. I have no enemies because I injure no man for any cause, but I try to benefit all with whom I come in contact, by teaching them the way to enduring riches. I have more material wealth than I need because I am free from greed and covet only the material things I can use while I live.” – Source: PMA Science of Success Course. Pg. 25

Perhaps it would be worth copying and printing this out and contemplate it daily for the next 30-days.   By applying this mental training you will be using the power of your subconsciousness to develop a success mindset and start to truly live you peak potential.

I’d like to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

No one could ride a horse if the horse discovered its real strength. The same thing is true for people.    personal success

Horses are massive, gentle creatures who are by far larger and stronger than the men and women who handle them, yet they docilely obey the commands they are given. It doesn’t seem logical that a large, powerful animal would allow itself to be mastered by a human being, yet we have been able to use our intelligence to dominate the animal kingdom.

You can use these same forces to allow the positive side of yourself to dominate the negative. Mental strength and a positive mental attitude allow you to tap the source of great personal power that resides within you, enabling you to accomplish things you never before believed were possible.

This is especially true when it comes to money management.  Sure, we can have the mental strength to climb mountains, run races and even take a deep look into our souls, but when it comes to money many seem to lack mind power to manage it correctly.

Napoleon Hill discuss the art frugality in this excerpt below

“Frugality is one of the essentials of success. The habit of planned savings encourages frugality, makes it an established habit.

Every man is where he is, and what he is, because of the habits he has acquired. The man who lives up to the limit of his income, or beyond it, never is a free man. He is forever under bondage to others, and bondage is not a welcome circumstance. It is not part of the Creator’s purpose for man.

From here on each of us is under obligation to guard our individual sources and our time as efficiently as a well managed corporation manages its funds and the time of its employees.

If this obligation confuses or irritates some of us, let us take comfort from the fact that it will at least lead us into better habits of self-discipline. And let us recognize that we are approaching the interpretation of a rule of human conduct which is the hope of mankind because it holds the secret by which we may escape from the liabilities of this age of confusion and chaos through which we are passing.

Presentation of this great rule has been reserved as a fitting climax to the principles previously described. It rightly serves as a climax for the sixteen preceding principles because it is the principle which gives moral guidance in the use of the power which the first sixteen principles place into your hands.

Power is a dangerous thing in the hand of someone who does not recognize a moral obligation in its use. The history of mankind proves this.” – Source: PMA Science of Success Course. Pg. 486.

Did you notice this part, “…serves as the climax for the sixteen preceding principles because it is the principle which gives moral guidance in the use of the power which the first sixteen principles place into your hands.”

This principle plays a huge part in the 16 personal success principles.  So much so, that even we master the previous 15; they are little use if we don’t master this principle.

As a society we’ve done a lousy job of teaching the importance of money management.  So with this gap individuals like Harv Eker and alike have come along to fill it.

Harv’s company, Peak Potentials Training was built around developing the correct mindset for not just money management but for financial freedom!

Another great person that I follow is Bill Losey, CFP®.  Bill has a straight forward approach to “retirement intelligence.”

There are so many great individuals out there that can teach us the mindset and techniques for money management and the production of wealth that this last personal success principle should almost be the easiest.

If you’re struggling in this area find one person that you connect with (that is living what they are teaching) and follow them and them alone!  The problem with having access to so many great people we tend to overwhelm ourselves with information…then we don’t do anything!

So, pick one, wither it’s Harv Eker, Bill Losey, Suze Orman or David Bach, just pick one and follow their advice completely!

I’d like to hear from you about who you have been taking advice from, this way other readers will have a greater selection to choose from.  Please let us know in the comments below.

“Yes” answers instead of “No” __________

“No” answers instead of “Yes”__________

Add the two totals together and subtract from 75. This will be your score.

Find your rating below:

  • 75 points – Perfect (very rare)
  • 66 to 74 points Ð Good (Above Average)
  • 51 to 65 points Ð Fair (Average)
  • 26 to 50 points Ð Poor (Below Average)
  • 25 points and below Ð Unsatisfactory

What was your score?

If your score was average or even below average remember that most people answering this questionnaire made similar scores. The reason, of course, is that few individuals have been trained to grasp the secrets of success the secrets that have lifted thousands upon thousands of average men and women to business and social leadership. There are no mental, physical, educational or age barriers to these secrets of success. Success is a science and its secrets are available to you if you want them.

It isn’t defeat, but rather your lack of mental strength and your attitude toward it, that whips you.

There are many things in life that you can’t control.  There is however absolutely one thing you can always control…your attitude toward any event.

Defeat is never permanent unless you allow it; there is no failure…only feedback. When you have a positive attitude, you will recognize failure for the impostor that it is and realize that it’s simply a learning experience, a valuable lesson that will help you succeed with the next attempt. Ask yourself:

  • What could I have done differently that would have altered the outcome?
  • What can I do in the future to minimize problems and mistakes?
  • What did I learn from this experience that I can put to good use next time?

If you approach obstacles and setbacks with a positive attitude, you will be surprised how quickly you can turn defeat into victory.

In other words, if you face any situation with enthusiasm and look for the learning’s you’ll find them.

Enthusiasm is powerful state, one that can keep a person going long after the initial excitement wears off.  This is what Napoleon Hill had to say about enthusiasm:

“Enthusiasm is literally the gateway of approach to your spiritual qualities. It not only gives deep conviction to the words you speak, but it projects its influence into the inner recesses of the soul of anyone whom it touches.

Enthusiasm is a builder of new ideas

It is not surprising, therefore, that Ralph Waldo Emerson said: “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.” For he had felt the rebound of enthusiasm in his own soul, where it revealed to him the hidden forces of his being and made his name immortal.

And it was this same rebound of enthusiasm, deep within the soul of Helen Keller, which inspired her with the faith through which she mastered her afflictions of deafness, dumbness and blindness.

It carried Edison through ten thousand failures and revealed to him, at long last, the secret of the incandescent electric lamp. Psychologists who have studied Edison’s achievements all agree that his astounding physical endurances was inspired by his enduring enthusiasm for his definite major purpose.

It was this same undying enthusiasm for the cause of American Independence which inspired George Washington to keep on fighting in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles until freedom and liberty had been secured for the United States of America.

And it was the power of enthusiasm which inspired the people of the United States to awaken, prepare and take action to meet another great emergency which threatened their freedom and safety at the outbreak of World War II – an achievement which astounded the world because of the efficiency and dispatch with which it was carried out.

Enthusiasm was the power which sustained Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War and enabled him to carry on until he had saved the nation from self-destruction.

“How,” you may ask, “can power be attained?”

The procedure is simple and within the control of everyone, as the Creator intended it should be:

You start with hope — hope for the achievement of some definite purpose.,

Hope is the forerunner of faith.

And the smoldering embers of hope are fanned into the white flame of faith by feeding them on controlled enthusiasm backed by definiteness of purpose. The fanning process should be continued until ordinary desire becomes burning desire.

Hope, enthusiasm, and faith are the key words because of their close relationship. When they are combined with definiteness of purpose, they give one access to unlimited mind-power. These are the four factors which lead to a burning desire.

Hope alone is of little value. It is but little more than a wish, and everyone has wishes in abundance., Nothing comes of wishes until they are organized and associated with their companions: definiteness of purpose, enthusiasm and faith.

The process of organization takes place through self-discipline. This is the principle through which enthusiasm may be organized, controlled and directed to a definite end. Other principles of this philosophy which are related to enthusiasm and which may be needed for its organization and control are:

  • Definiteness of Purpose
  • The Master Mind
  • Pleasing Personality
  • Personal Initiative
  • The Habit of Learning from Defeat
  • The Habit of Going the Extra Mile
  • Applied Faith
  • Creative Vision
  • Concentration
  • The Habit of Health
  • Accurate Thinking

Mastery and application of these twelve principles will place you within easy reach of controlled enthusiasm. This has been the experience of every person who has mastered this philosophy, and it will be yours!

Men of great achievement are men of great desires. You will have such desires, and achieve them, if you will follow the instructions you have been given. Remember: Anything in life worth having is worth working for. And there is a price to be paid. The price for reaping the benefits of this philosophy consists mainly in eternal vigilance and everlasting persistence in applying such a philosophy as a daily habit. Mere knowledge is not enough. It must be applied.

Enthusiasm is a combination of mental and physical energy which is seldom found in an ailing body. It thrives best where sound physical health abounds. Sound health begins with the development and maintenance of health consciousness, just as economic success begins with prosperity consciousness.” – Source: PMA Science of Success Course: Pgs. 261-263.

One of the key points I received from this information is focused enthusiasm.  Although Napoleon Hill never used that phrase exactly in reading the above essay the underlying tone for the development and use of enthusiasm is focus.  Dr.  Hill used the phrase “definiteness of purposes”, for me this translates into focus.

So, let me ask you…what are you enthusiastic about?  How will you focus this energy into something creative and great?

Please share your thoughts and ideas in the comments section below.

Emotion Pattern Flow Chart
Image via Wikipedia

Without a strong foundation built on positive character traits, success will not long endure. It is virtually impossible to fake good character. Phonies are quickly spotted because they haven’t the substance and determination to maintain the charade.

Developing good character begins with a positive attitude, mental strength and self-discipline. Your desire to be a good, decent, honest, considerate person must first take place in your mind. When you make the decision to become a person of character, you will also find that you are much more willing to do the right thing simply because it is the right thing to do.

Mental strength as it applies to self-discipline is at the cornerstone of personal empowerment, character and personal performance.

Here’s a note on what Napoleon Hill had to say about self-discipline.

Self-Discipline

by Dr. Napoleon Hill

“Self-discipline begins with the mastery of your thoughts. If you do not control your thoughts, you cannot control your deeds. Therefore, in its simplest form, self-discipline causes you to think first and act afterward. Almost everyone automatically does exactly the reverse of this. People generally act first and think later–unless they take possession of their minds and control their thoughts and deeds through self-discipline.

Control of the Emotions

Self-discipline will give you complete control over fourteen major emotions listed below. Seven of these are positive, and seven negative:

Positive Emotions

  • Love
  • Sex
  • Hope
  • Faith
  • Enthusiasm
  • Loyalty
  • Desire

Negative Emotions

  • Fear
  • Jealousy
  • Hatred
  • Revenge
  • Greed
  • Anger
  • Superstition

All of these emotions are states of mind and are, therefore, subject to your control and direction. You can see instantly how dangerous the seven negative emotions can be if they are not mastered. The seven positive emotions can be destructive too, if they are not organized and released under your complete, conscious control. Wrapped up in these fourteen emotions is power of a truly explosive nature. If you regulate it properly, it can lift you to heights of distinguished achievement. But if you permit it to run rampant, it can dash you to pieces on the rocks of failure. You should realize that your education, your experience, your native intelligence and your good intentions cannot alter or modify these possibilities.” – Source: PMA Science of Success Course. Pgs. 268 & 269

I want to point out line in particular – “You can see instantly how dangerous the seven negative emotions can be if they are not mastered.”

This is important, if not critical in moving forward in life.  But what about all the situations where these negative emotions occurred, what’s a person to do?

In Huna this past negative emotions are described as “little black bags” that we carry with us in our body.  And until we release them we will take them forward with us into our future.

Even if we begin to master thoughts and emotions from now on, we’re still carting these “black bags” with us.

This is where Time Empowerment® comes in.

With Time Empowerment® a person can systematically go back and release the original occurrence where one felt anger, sadness, fear or guilt (each emotion is released separately).  When the origin of negative emotion is released all the subsequent occurrences of that emotion is released as well.

The feeling after all emotions are released is difficult to explain, but it comes close to “bliss.”  The after the emotions are cleared mastery of them will be easier.  Sure it will take mental strength and discipline and the payoff will be huge and reflected in your personal perfromance!

So…let me ask you, what’s your plan to naturalize your negative emotions? What has worked for you?  Let me know in the comments below.

PS:  If you’d like to more about Time Empowerment® please Contact Me.

Your mental strength and attitude determines the type of friends you attract.Mental Strength

If you desire to be a positive, successful person, make sure you choose your friends carefully.

Positive friends and role models will have a positive effect upon you, while negative friends will soon kill your motivation. Don’t allow yourself to be lulled into complacency by the masses who believe mediocrity is an acceptable alternative. Think for yourself and focus on the possibilities for success and all that it will bring.

When you doubt yourself, talk the situation over with a coach or a positive, supportive friend. Everyone needs a boost now and again…kind of like a tune-up or oil change; ensure your friends are positive, success-oriented people who always build you up, not negative thinkers who always seem to find a way to tear you down.

When you chose your friend wisely you’ll always be the victor!

Victim or Victor? You Decide.

by Dr. Napoleon Hill

God moves in a mysterious way, His wonders to perform wrote William Cowper in 1772. And if we could only get a long range perspective of the eternal scheme, we could see that these upheavals in our social, political and economic institutions are sent to break up the undesirable mass habits of men. They may be the means of clearing the way for growth and progress in the overall evolution of the race.

Men of great achievement may be playing parts in an overall pattern, or plan, and they may be serving some purpose far beyond their own conception. Take a man like Thomas A. Edison. He probably thought he was inventing to make money, but for all we know, nature may have had another idea. She may have been using him as an instrument for the betterment of all mankind. At least, he did improve the lot of every one of us.

Two great forces are working in the minds of all men to make them what they are. One is social heredity, and the other is physical heredity.

Physical heredity is the law of nature through which the sum and substance of all characteristics, traits and physical aspects of your ancestors, through the ages, have been handed on to you. You are unavoidably a product of all your ancestors.

Social heredity consists of every influence with which you will come in contact, from the time you reach a state of consciousness until you die. Your mother’s and father’s influence, your education, the conversations you listen to, religious influences, political ideas, the newspapers you read, the shows you see – they all have and will help to make you what you are. They are your social inheritance. Very few persons have what it takes to pull away from these and do some independent, accurate thinking for themselves. A few cast off their social inheritance and dare to be different and individualistic. When this happens, the world has an Edison, a Ford, a Thomas Paine, an Ingersoll or a Jonas Salk. But the vast majority of people allow themselves to become victims of social heredity. This is why straight thinking is such a rarity.

It’s a great moment in your life when you break away from your social heredity and start doing your own thinking. Both social and physical heredity are under the direction of cosmic habitforce. Subconscious application is emphasized because they never consciously knew of this principle or what it was that literally swept them up the stairway to eminent success.” – Source: PMA Science of Success Course. Pgs. 504-505.

WOW…did you get this line! “It’s a great moment in your life when you break away from your social heredity and start doing your own thinking.”

How many of us think we’re doing our own thinking, only to find after further investigation that we are simply running programs that have ben installed by parents, teachers, friends and media?

When we truly develop our mental strength and start to question our thoughts and think in a new way, select our friends with a different perspective…this is when we will experience personal empowerment!

Byron Katie has a series of powerful questions called “The Work” to help investigate our thoughts.  They are:

  • Is it true?
  • Can you absolutely know that it’s true?
  • How do you react, what happens, when you believe that thought?
  • Who would you be without the thought?

After you have taken any thought, especially a disempowering one and run it through The Work you’ll be faced with a decision.  Do I continue to think this way or do I want to think for myself?

The answer to that question will either give you personal empowerment and you’ll be the victor.  Or you’ll fade back into the shadows of being a victim….the choice is yours.

How will you choose?  Please let me know in the comments below.

Before trying to master others, be sure you are the master of yourself.

As we enter our last day at NLP, Timeline Empowerment® and hypnosis training the main theme I’m taking away is….master ourselves through the discipline of mental strength and personal development and become the leader we were born to be.

When you develop the discipline of mental strength, you immediately set yourself apart from the crowd. You become a leader; mental strength thinking leads to positive and strong action, while negative thinking leads to apathy and inaction.

When you take the initiative in any situation, others will follow simply because they like to associate with people who know where they are going. In order to lead, however, you must first be willing to discipline yourself.

The first rule of leadership is never to ask others to do what you are unwilling to do yourself. You can lead only by example. Being a leader requires you to work harder and longer than the others and proving you are the master of your own destiny.

I found the below excerpt from Napoleon Hill so powerful concerning one key attribute that all leaders must have….self-confidence.

Self-Confidence Formula

by Dr. Napoleon Hill

I know that I have the ability to achieve the object of my definite purpose in life; therefore, I demand of myself persistent, continuous action toward its attainment, and I here and now promise to render such action.

I realize the dominating thoughts of my mind will eventually reproduce themselves in outward, physical action, and gradually transform themselves into physical reality; therefore, I will concentrate my thought, for thirty minutes daily, upon the task of thinking of the person I intend to become, thereby creating in my mind a clear mental picture.

I know through the principle of autosuggestion, any desire that I persistently hold in my mind will eventually seek expression through some practical means of attaining the object back of it; therefore, I will devote ten minutes daily to demanding of myself the development of self-confidence.

I have clearly written down a description of my definite chief aim in life, and I will never stop trying, until I shall have developed sufficient self-confidence for its attainment.

I fully realize that no wealth or position can long endure, unless built upon truth and justice; therefore, I will engage in no transaction that does not benefit all whom it affects.  I will succeed by attracting to myself the forces I wish to use, and the cooperation of other people.  I will induce others to serve me, because of my willingness to serve others.  I will eliminate hatred, envy, jealousy, selfishness, and cynicism, by developing love for all humanity, because I know that a negative attitude toward others can never bring me success.  I will cause others to believe in me, because I will believe in them, and in myself.  I will sign my name to this formula, commit it to memory, and repeat it aloud once a day, with full faith that it will gradually influence my thoughts and actions so that I will become a self-reliant, and successful, person.

Back of this formula is a law of nature that no man has yet been able to explain.  The name by which one calls this law is of little importance.  The important fact about it is—it works for the glory and success of mankind, if it is used constructively.  On the other hand, if used destructively, it will destroy just as readily.  In this statement may be found a very significant truth, namely, that those who go down in defeat, and end their lives in poverty, misery, and distress, do so because of negative application of the principle of autosuggestion.  The cause may be found in the fact that all impulses of thought have a tendency to clothe themselves in their physical equivalent.” – Source: Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. Collector’s Edition. Pgs. 86 & 87.

This has been one of the transformation weeks I’ve ever experienced and have unshakable self-confidence that I can assist anyone who truly desires more out of life and increase their personal performance.

I’d like to hear your thoughts and comments in the section below.

Hiking at Eagle Creek (Multnomah County, Oregon)
Image via Wikipedia

I love any activity that involves the outdoors.  It could be hiking, running or simply looking for answers.

I’ve found that when I have a situation that I can’t seem to get the answer to, by simply waling and listening to Nature she always whispers an answer to me.

In the following passage from Napoleon Hill my favorite part is:

The friendship which sometimes exists between the lover of wild life and wild birds and animals is something which is most profound. Most of the creatures of the wild instinctively recognize the lover of wild life and voluntarily show their confidence in him.”

The friendship I have with Nature is one of great respect and appreciation.  At the end of the flowing excerpt I provide some addition thoughts on friendship.

Effective Stimulants

by Dr. Napoleon Hill

“Friendship of others can be a great stimulant. There are those who think best by talking problems over with others. Friendship can be a source of new ideas, varied outlook and intellectual and moral support. As a source of laughter, it is a potent stress inhibitor. Laughter trickles through the entire body and tickles every cell into renewed vitality.

A close, warm relationship between parent and child has a most astounding influence in connection with the formation of a child’s character. It is regrettable that parents are not able to give more time and energy to develop such a relationship.

The friendship which sometimes exists between the lover of wild life and wild birds and animals is something which is most profound. Most of the creatures of the wild instinctively recognize the lover of wild life and voluntarily show their confidence in him.

The word friendship has more behind it than the mere social relationship of people. Friendship serves to bring the souls of men closer to one another. It builds confidence, inspires courage, enthusiasm, imagination and personal initiative, as nothing else can do.

Mastermind alliances are powerful mind stimulants. Evidence of this is shown in the fact that there are more successful men in all walks of life who have such an alliance.

The potential power which may be attained through the mastermind principle, is shown to the extent that it brings together the minds of many individuals and concentrates their combined power upon the attainment of a definite end. It also provides the means by which the other sixteen principles of this philosophy may be organized and directed as a single force for the attainment of any desired end.

The mastermind principle is the medium through which stimuli from many minds may be combined, and directed to a definite end. Hence, it is among the greatest of the mind stimuli.

Mutual suffering, in times of great emergency, provides a mind stimulant of stupendous proportions. Mutual suffering has the effect of causing people to consolidate their mind power, through the mastermind principle, and direct it to the alleviation of their suffering.

Autosuggestion is the medium through which every individual stimulates his mind continuously. Unfortunately most of the stimuli which reach the mind of the average person by self-suggestion are of a negative nature. They consist of thoughts of the conditions and things which one does not want—fears, worries, hatreds, envy, greed and superstition”. – Source: PMA Science of Success. Pgs. 455 & 456.

No one can keep you down but yourself.

Have you at any time sensed that occasionally you’re your own worst enemy? We all have occasions when, regardless of how hard we attempt something; things simply don’t appear to sort out they way we want. Whenever everything falls apart and we don’t have any someone to blame but ourselves.

However, just as you may occasionally be your own worst enemy, you can additionally be your own best friend. The changeover generally happens whenever you realize that the only individual on the planet who is able to decide your failure or achievement is you.

You may find your best friend whenever you develop the maturity as well as mental strength and acknowledge yourself for the individual you are and to take the measures required to become the person you intend to be.

When you examine yourself fairly, you can begin to construct upon your strengths and compensate for your disadvantages. When you do, you’ll understand that the only real individual who stands in the way of your success is you and your personal performance will reflect this new found personal empowerment.

I’d enjoy hearing your thoughts in the comment section below

Every time I read a something from Napoleon Hill I am still amazed at how true and strong the teachings are Mental Strengthespecially in today’s environment.

In the below excerpt Dr. Hill discuss the attributes of a genius…I think you’ll be surprised that IQ is never mentioned!

At the end of the passage I have provide some additional comments…enjoy the reading.

What Constitutes Genius?

by Dr. Napoleon Hill

“Any dominating desire, plan or purpose which is backed by faith is taken over by the subconscious mind and acted upon immediately.

The mind, stimulated by dominating desire, draws power directly from the subconscious, and, when reinforced by the power of faith, is able to create a conviction of such force that it completely rejects the idea of a possibility of failure.  This constitutes genius.  And genius is that which may be developed by any person in possession of his or her normal mental faculties.

A good many people have the mistaken idea that there are certain types of people in this world who can be called geniuses.  The ingredients which make up genius have been discovered in the last forty years and it is now known that those persons often alluded to as possessing a rare genius actually do not have any powers which you do not possess.  They are invariably persons who are consciously and subconsciously following certain basic principles which are responsible for their apparently abnormal power.  The following are the basic ingredients of genius, as determined from an extensive analysis of the lives of outstanding men of this nation.

The first ingredient is the subject of this entire lesson – definiteness of purpose.  A genius knows what he wants from life.  Today’s geniuses are busy at the moment, moving directly, with little waste motion, toward accomplishing their objectives.

The second factor is applied faith.  Not just a general faith, but applied faith, faith that is concentrated upon the attainment of the definite purpose.  Definiteness of purpose is the foundation upon which all faith is based.

The third factor is something that is contagious; it is called enthusiasm, and you should catch some of this.  Enthusiasm is the expression of a certain dynamic vitality in the way you walk, talk, and act.  It is the result of your motivation and your physical magnetism and energy.  It is the light in your eye, the vibrant timber of your voice, the vigor of your handshake.  It is the element which can really build a fire under your desire and make it literally a burning desire.  It is a quality which must be controlled and turned on and off at the right time.

The fourth ingredient is imagination, the activity of the mind that makes possible the creation of new ideas.  Without imagination nothing new would ever be created.  It, too, must be controlled and directed.  It is usually most productive when activated by a specific aim or issue.

The fifth factor is motive.  You are familiar with the ten basic motives previously discussed.  No sane person does anything without a motive; there has to be a reason back of every act.

The sixth factor is personal initiative, backed by intense action.  You will never be a genius unless you get into the habit of doing what should be done without waiting for someone to tell you to do it.  Personal initiative is the self-starter and it must be kept in perfect shape for instant use.  Another way of defining personal initiative might be:  The ability to see things as they are and to do things as they should be done.

The seventh factor is the habit of going the extra mile.  You will never be a genius unless you make it a habit to do more and better than you are paid to do, every single day of your life.

The eighth factor is forming a master mind alliance with other people.  The number in the alliance depends on what you want to accomplish.  For your goal in life you may not require more than a dozen or a half-dozen – maybe only one; but if you are going to be a genius you will have to learn to use other people’s brain power.

The ninth factor and last is perhaps the most important of all.  You may have guessed it.  It is a positive mental attitude.  You certainly will ever rank as a genius until you can positivize your mind and keep it that way at will.  Without a positive mental attitude, none of the other ingredients of genius will be available to you.” – Source: PMA Science of Success Course: pgs. 29 & 30.

I’d like to highlight a few points that I found extremely powerful.

  • “…create a conviction of such force that it completely rejects the idea of a possibility of failure.”

Did you get this? Rejects the idea of a possibility of failure! How often have you or heard someone say “if it works out, great, if not, no big deal”…guess what happens?  It usually doesn’t work out.

When we take on the attitude of no failure and we will never stop until we achieve our goal there comes a clam understanding that removes any stress around the goal.  That’s not to say there won’t be obstacles and set-backs, sure there’s going to be some.  And when we have the perspective of ‘are no failures, only feedback,’ we activate our personal empowerment to continue until we are successful.

  • “A genius knows what he wants from life. “

Most people know what they DON’T, but have no idea what they DO want.  When we absolutely know what we want we’re able to articulate the goal.  We know how it will feel, smell, taste and look like when we get it, and the exact date.

If we set goals as “it would be nice to have”, then we are acknowledging, at the unconscious level that is OK if we don’t get.  In order to increase our personal performance we must know exactly what we want.

  • “Enthusiasm is the expression of a certain dynamic vitality in the way you walk, talk, and act.”

This can also be thought of ‘act as if’ and the real power in this instruction is “talk.”  Sure it’s easy for us to strut around as if we have achieved our goal or have the capacity TO achieve our goal.  But it’s another thing to talk as if.  We often fear that we’ll be perceived as phony or even a liar.  The key is talk (and believe) as if you have ALL the resources available and this is where the enthusiasm comes from.

  • “…personal initiative, backed by intense action. “

I LOVE this one…’intense action.’  Not, weak action…not I’ll see what happens action, but INTENSE action.  When we take intense action towards our goal, we obviously must know what we want and this action also unlocks the enthusiasm and rejects the possibility of failure.  Intense action ignites our personal empowerment so that we can significantly increase our personal performance.

Intense thoughts and action leads to intense results….weak thoughts and action lead to weak results.

Which would you rather have?

In the book “How to Develop the Mental Strength of a Warrior” you’ll find out exactly how to develop strong and powerful thoughts so that you can take strong and powerful action and get the results you want!
