In our “Beyond Limits” class last night the topic was forgiveness.  Now I’ll be the first to admit that this topic is still forgivnessone I’m trying to understand at a deeper level.

You see, when I first heard about and even thought about forgiving someone I thought it was indicating that what ever action the person did was acceptable.  This is why I found it extremely difficult to forgive certain individuals.

Then as I continued on my path I discovered that this is NOT what forgiveness is.  As we were told in class last night, forgiveness is allowing the person safe passage through our mind.  Another definition we discussed is: “forgiveness is forever giving up the right to ever bring up again that which you forgave.”

Another interesting aspect of forgiveness is in relation to The Law of Attraction.  If, as we have been told and it has been proven, that we are all connected at some level.  And if everything is energy, then by us not forgiving we are in essence ‘holding back.’  And “as we so so shall we reap”, that is, by us holding back energy, then that aspect of us that is the Universe must hold back as well.  When we forgive, we release energy and this energy must circulate and come back to us.

Like I said…this is an ongoing practice for me to understand and practice forgiveness.

Every culture, spiritual practice and religion at its core has a concept of forgiveness…gee…do you think it’s important!?

In the support of forgiveness there are two concepts of power and peace.  Last night we contemplated power (I’ll call it personal power) the definition we were asked to consider is that “power is asking for what you want and accepting what you get.”

For peace we were asked to contemplate that “peace is giving up that ‘something is wrong here.”

An interesting contemplation is that by focusing on the past with unforgiveness, lack of personal power and lack of peace, can it be that we are possible creating or recreating the very things was want to get out of or get rid of?

OK…so those are some of the topics associate with forgiveness.

The question now is, how does one forgive?

There are numerous methods for forgiving or at least looking at a situation that might need forgiveness.  One is the Hawaiian form of forgiveness ho’oponopono.  I discussed this in a previous post “Time For Some Physical and Emotional Cleaning”.   Another great process is “The Sedona Method” cofounded by Hale Dwoskin.  And one more that has to deal with relationships is Byron Katie’s “The Work.”

Last night we were introduced to another method, and I don’t know if it actually has a name and for now I’ll call it “beyond forgives.”

Here’s the process:

Step 1: Write down the name of the person that you have the issue with (that requires forgiveness for you to move on).

Step 2: Write down your inauthentic way being when you are around them.  That is, if you are normally a fun, outgoing and carefree person, do you with withdraw?  The key here is to see how and what you change into when you are around this person.  What type of façade or mask do you put on?  So, your authentic self is NOT how you act when you are mad at someone, but how you are “normally”…this is your authentic self.  Then what happens when you are near this person…this is your inauthentic self

Step 3: Contemplate, what is the impact of this way of being to others in your life?  For example, if you’re having a good time talking with friends and the person you are mad at walks by, how does your metamorphosis…you’re inauthentic way of being, affect the others?  Do you change the subject from something happy to complaining about the person?  Do you withdraw from the conversation completely?  Do people notice the shift and not want to be around you?  For ever action there is a reaction.  When you shift your energy to an inauthentic way of being there are ramifications…what are they?

Step 4: Ask, “What can I give up?” Can you give up being distant? Can you give up the anger?  To help answer this question I strongly recommend looking into “The Sedona Method” and “The Work.”   Both of these processes provide excellent re-frame’s to allow you to release and let go.

In my 2 ½ Day Intensive, The 2nd Passage, I spend a significant amount of time on forgiveness and the results are amazing.

In order for personal growth, personal development and personal empowerment to occur for you, you MUST practice the art of forgiveness.   Forgiveness is essential in living a rich, full, happy and meaningful life…and this is what you want, isn’t it?

I hope this gave you something to think about and consider looking into how forgiveness can help you reclaim your personal power so that you can live a life filled with joy!

Oh yea…here’s a great re-mix of Dolly Parton – Peace Train (Junior Vasquez Extended Club Mix).  I guess it fits with forgiveness…I just really like it!

I mentioned in a previous post that I’m taking a class “Beyond Limits.” It’s associated with Science of Mind and the Your goodCenter for Spiritual Living here in San Jose.

The premise behind the teachings is that our thinking creates our reality.  No big deal right?  This is fairly well known.  The cool thing about Science of Mind and especially New Thought is that it’s been around since the 1800’s! More specifically Science of Mind has been around since 1927.  These teachings are from the pioneers of this movement.  This “New Thought” is at the heart of “The Secret” and other similar programs.

Anyway, in last nights class two things really stuck with me.

The first is “the news is the news because it’s not the norm.” Stop and think about this for a moment.  Everything you see and read about in the news is an oddity, that’s why it’s in the news.

Unfortunately for the majority of the population they have been hypnotized into believing that the news IS the norm!  The trouble here is that when you believe the news is the norm you will tend to look for “it”, i.e. more bad news, in order to “prove” that it is the norm.

Remember, what the thinker thinks, the prover proves…and you have both of these in your mind.

And when the prover proves it will only let situations and circumstances through your filters so that you’ll miss all the greatness around your.

It’s like the story of the man pointing the beautiful moon showing his dog which way to look and all the dog was doing is looking at the finger.

When we program ourselves by watching and reading the news, with the unconsciousness assumption that the news is the norm, we will then create exactly what we think is the norm.

I know…I can hear you already, “So what am I supposed to do, be uniformed, what if something horrible happens and I need to know?”

First, is something happens that it so bad you need to know…someone will tell you.

Second, I’m not saying don’t stay informed, what I am suggesting is that when you listen to the news, listen from a perceptive of non attachment and ask, “Is this true all over?”

You will find that by using your mental strength, questioning and not getting emotional attached to the stories you will be able to make better assumptions and take a different action.  This, my friend, is reclaiming your personal power that you have been giving away for a long time.

Go ahead and watch the news if you must, but look it as if it is NOT the norm and then find all the examples of the opposite. You’ll be amazed at how much good is out there.

The next subject that really got to me was the question “What’s your good?” This was used in reference to the manifestation process. You know – affirmations, visualization prayer, etc.  Most of us have heard about dream boards, setting goals and affirming our personal goals.  Some may have even heard about “raising your vibration” in accordance to what you desire.

Until last night I thought I understood, and to some degree I did and I’m sure you do as well.  But this question, “What’s your good?” was used in relation to what truly creates happiness and joy inside you.

We all have at least one thing that we LOVE to do and when you’re doing it we feel ecstatic.  To some, it could be playing with their children, for others is could be walking in nature and still others working out (yes there some of us that LOVE to work out).  What ever it is…that’s your good!

So how does this fit into manifestation?

Well…before you being to use any of the process described above, or any other that you use to create your reality, first get in touch with your good.  Then when that energy…when that vibration is strongly felt….start the process.

You see most of us do affirmation, visualization, prayer, etc from a place of lack, scarcity and need…and that is the vibration we are sending out.  No wonder “it” doesn’t work….well actually “it” is working perfectly in accordance with your vibration.

I hope you’re getting this….this was a huge ah-ha for me.

You see, I love to climb mountains.  It gives me a feeling that is indescribable….I know what it is, how it feels, and where the feeling is located…I just can’t and don’t want to put a label on it.

And from now on before I being ANY manifestation process I’m going to think about climbing and when I can sense that feeling inside me, that’s when I’ll start the process.

So…I ask….what’s your good?  What is it that creates an indescribable feeling for you?  Find it and get to know it deeply.  Then before you begin any magnification process evoke that memory…that feeling…that internal representation and then move into the process.

You’ll be amazed at how your personal goals and personal success will easily begin to show up in your life.

The e-book, “Develop the Mental Strength of a Warrior” goes into this in greater depth.

OK…let me hear from you in the comments below.

I’ve given many workshops on Shamanism and I item I like to include is the chakra system, especially as they relate to Personal growthpersonal success, wealth and money.

I’d like to share my notes on chakras from my workshop.  Most of them are fairly easy to understand.  If some seem confusing….just use your mental strength and you’ll be able to figure them out :-)

I believe that when we work with our spiritual and energy bodies this has a direct affect on our physical body and physical reality.

By embracing our personal power and work with these bodies we will experience tremendous personal growth.

Enjoy the info…

The Chakras

Chakra is the Sanskrit word for ‘Wheel’, or ‘Vortex’, and refers to each of the seven energy centers that compose our consciousness; our energy system. The first written references we have for this concept were given to us by the ancient Hindu writings, although the concepts of energy centers and circuits in the physical body are repeated with slight variation in nearly every religion and spiritual belief system throughout recorded time.

The concept of the halo as depicted in paintings throughout history is a strong reference to the manifestation of a completely open and functioning seventh chakra. The chakras function as regulators for the flow of energy through and around us. They are not physical. They are aspects of our consciousness and are denser than auras which are, in fact, manifestations of the colors of our open and functioning chakras but they are not as dense as the physical body.

All of your senses, all of your perceptions, all of your possible states of awareness, everything it is possible for you to experience, can be divided into nine categories. Each category can be associated with a particular chakra. Thus, the chakras represent not only particular parts of your physical body, but also particular parts of your consciousness.

The Eastern traditions recognize seven chakras as they relate to and interact with your body’s system. The Western Earthkeepers recognize nine chakras in total that include everything that your awakened consciousness can experience. There is an eighth one, which is like a radiant sun located above the head, outside the physical body but within your personal luminous energy field. We call this eighth chakra the “soul”. The ninth chakra is high above it, existing outside of time in the center of the cosmos, and connecting us with all of life. The ninth chakra is Spirit. There are additional Ancient Solfeggio frequencies that line up with and tune these two Chakras (174Hz for the eighth chakra and 285Hz for the ninth chakra bringing all chakras in a full circle from Earth to Spirit and back to Earth connecting the two as one).

Each chakra is a vortex of swirling energy and light emitting from a line centrally placed in our body and extending a few inches outside of our body, spinning clockwise from the vortex and rotating clockwise 360 degrees around our body to create our Luminous Energy Field (LEF). The point of each vortex connects to our spine and to our endocrine glands.

1. The Root Chakra (Muladhara) – located at the base of the spine and opens out between the anus and the scrotum in men or the vaginal opening in women. It connects us to Gaia, our Mother Earth. It’s where our primitive instincts are energetically located. This chakra is highly important to keep clear. This is our connection, our grounding line, our cord to our mother. This is where our primal survival and fear instincts are located. When this energy center is clear and grounded we let go of the fear of scarcity and become more open to the abundance that surrounds us throughout nature. Color vibration – red

2. The Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana) – located 4 fingers below the navel. It is the seat of our passions. This is where all of our feelings and emotions live energetically. Our self-esteem and sense of how we are loved and unloved also reside here. Our anger clogs this chakra. When we clear it, we open ourselves up to endless creativity and romantic intimacy. Color vibration – orange

3. The Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura) – located just below the opening of the chest cavity. This is where the body’s physical energy level is located. Clearing this chakra allows us to have high levels of physical energy, have good relationships with others, and be clear about how we express ourselves. Color vibration – yellow

4. The Heart Chakra (Anahata) – located at the center of the chest and is associated with the heart. This is where we experience Love, compassion, unconditionality, and non-judgment for all people and creatures, for mountains, for stars, for deserts, and for oceans. Everything! The heart chakra is the central point in our physical energy system. It is where our Earthly and Cosmic energies meet and are centered. When we clear this chakra, we rid ourselves of egotism and open ourselves up to the greatest capacity for intimacy and Love. Color vibration – green

5. The Throat Chakra (Visudha) – located at the base of the throat. This is our center for communication, ideas, and psychic energy. When this area is clogged, we fixate on our own group or tribe and our own personal opinions and ideas. When it is cleansed we recognize our connection to others, become better communicators, and are open to gaining wisdom by listening to people even when we may not agree with them. Color vibration – sky blue

6. The Third Eye Chakra (Ajna) – located in the middle of the forehead. This is where our awareness, insight, vision, intuition, and focus are located. When this chakra is not clear our awareness and focus become clouded. We can become spiritually arrogant, knowing facts about the sacred, but not practicing them. Color vibration – indigo or purple

7. The Crown Chakra (Sahasrara) – located at the very top of the head. This is our doorway to the heavens, connecting us to the stars. This is where our understanding, our bliss, our cosmic consciousness, our enlightenment and divine purpose reside. Clearing this chakra allows us to experience time as non-linear and break free from the laws of cause and effect. When the seventh chakra is clogged we mistakenly believe that we’ve achieved enlightenment, not realizing that we have further to go before reaching that egoless state. Color vibration – violet and white

8. The Soul Chakra (Vyapini) – located a few inches above the top of our heads. This is where we experience a union with all of creation and its Creator. When this energy center is clogged we find ourselves caught between Spirit and matter, feeling dissociated and disconnected from all. This chakra corresponds to the soul. Etched in its walls are the imprints of trauma that we bring with us from one lifetime to another, and these helped select the parents we are born through. These imprints predispose us to living, learning, aging, and dying in particular ways. When it is clear we forgive our pasts and transcend through to Spirit. Color vibration – gold like a radiant sun

9. The Spirit Chakra (Vyomanga) – located in the heart of the Universe outside of time and space and is always crystalline and pure. This is where we can experience the magnificent expanse of creation. This is where we reside within God. To reach this area, we ascend the silver cord of light that rises up from the eighth chakra. It is Spirit. There is only one ninth chakra, for there is only one of us in Spirit. It is the all and the infinite, the one that we are. Color vibration – translucent white light.

Exercise to Balance/Clean Chakras:

In the morning while taking a shower take the left hand and place it at the back/base of the spine.  Then take the right hand, starting with the 1st chakra spin it counterclockwise 3 times, wash hands then proceed to the 2nd, wash hands, the 3rd repeating all the way to the 7th chakra.  The back the 1st chakra (with left had still at base of spine) spin the 1st chakra clockwise three times (with the right hand), wash hands and repeat all the way to the 7th chakra.

How to Clear the Chakras

There are a number of effective ways to clear the chakras. Each one is very helpful. I will list one of my favorite ways, from Alberto Villoldo’s book “The Four Insights”, but I suggest that you play with several different methods and use the one that resonates with you the most.

Begin by finding a quiet spot. You may sit in a meditative position for this exercise or you may also do this lying comfortably in your bed. Close your eyes and take a few deep, focused breaths. Let your thoughts float out in front of you, paying no attention to them, as you continue to inhale and exhale deeply.

Bring your hands together in the prayer position in front of your chest, with your fingertips touching. Rest your hands against your chest as you maintain this pose. Inhale deeply… and exhale. Inhale… and exhale. Breath deeply several times.

Separate your hands, shake them vigorously, and then return them to the prayer pose. Notice the feeling of energy coursing between your fingertips – then separate your hands very slowly, maintaining this feeling. With your eyes closed, try to see if you can perceive the threads of light between your fingertips, creating a sensation of tingling or warmth.

Move your right hand over your root chakra, to its wide mouth two inches away from your skin, Feel its energy as it spins and rotates clockwise. Now begin “unwinding” the chakra by slowly spinning your hand counter-clockwise ten times, imagining your body as the face of the clock and your fingers as the hands. Explore the inside of this vortex of light with your fingertips, sensing its energy and noting whether it is cool or warm, tingly or sludgy. Feel the stream of toxic energy flowing out of your chakra and down in the center of the earth as you “back-wash” this chakra sending its used up energy down into the earth so She can transmute it back into new fresh energy and light. Now return your root chakra to its normal direction of spin and rotation by slowly turning your hand clockwise ten times.

Because every chakra is associated with particular feelings, as you cleanse each one you may notice that certain emotions or memories arise spontaneously. Allow these sensations to wash through you and down into the earth without analyzing them. You’re doing this work at the level of Spirit so do not distract yourself with these feelings. Allow these sensations to pass through you like a soft breeze and down into Gaia. They will subside on their own after you’ve taken a few deep breaths. (Please note that you may not feel any sensations as you do this practice. If this is the case, don’t worry – the exercise is effective and powerful, whether you experience any feelings or not.)

Repeat this unwinding action with each of the first seven chakras to cleanse them of any psychic debris, and then be sure to wind them clockwise again. After you’ve cleansed the seventh chakra imagine that you are hovering a few inches above your physical body. After a few minutes cross your hands over your heart chakra and take three deep breaths. Fully inhabit your physical body. Shake your hands gently and vigorously and knead them together. Rub your face with your hands and open your eyes.

Intermediate level: After you’ve done this exercise a few times and can sense your luminous self floating above your physical body, direct your awareness into your eighth chakra. Allow your consciousness to inhabit this space where the divine resides within you. Explore the vastness of this domain and try to remember what you were before you were born and what you will be after you die. Remember that this chakra exists outside of time, and here you can recall events that occurred in the past and the future.

Advanced level: After you master the intermediate technique, perform the exercise again; only this time direct your awareness into your ninth chakra. Experience yourself dissolving and becoming one with Spirit and with the vast expanse of creation. We call this center a chakra for lack of a better name. In reality, it’s the dwelling place of Spirit, which is everywhere and is everything, in the manifest and unmanifest creation.

Work and play with these methods regularly. You will find your body, mind, and spirit to feel clear and your awareness is heightened greatly by clearing your chakras. I also strongly encourage you to incorporate my Solfeggio Frequency recordings into your sessions to help you clear the chakras and to help you reach deeper states of awareness and meditation.

Please let me know your thoughts abut this post and if you’d like to me put this together into a usable program (with audio and video).

This post is inspired by a class I’m taking, “Beyond Limits” at the Center for Spiritual Living here in San Jose.inner strength

This is a 10-week class on possibilities.  I find this information to be in complete congruence and support’s my ideas of mental strength, inner strength and personal power.

We began our class last night discussing our future and the three futures ahead for many individuals.

1st – The Future We Plan For: This involves consciously preparing how we want to life our life.  This can involve where we want to go on vacation, where we want retire.  What we’re going to do this weekend.

The challenge with a “planned” future is that it only comes from the consciousness mind.  There is little, if any, participation from our Higher Consciousness (Higher Self) and subconsciousness mind.  You see, our consciousness mind is the goal setter and our subconsciousness mind is the goal getter.

Without active involvement from both our Higher Consciousness AND our subconsciousness mind we will be making plans based on past experiences as well as current beliefs and values.    What does this mean?  We’re going to keep repeating the past…to some extent or another.

The good thing about the future we plan for is at least there is action.

2nd – The Future We Hope For:  This usually involves no proactive planning or taking action, except for the purchase of a lottery ticket.  Sure, “hope” has been proven to be a positive energy, but when we live only on hope without any plans or action, sooner or latter the energy turns negative.

Simply hoping for a better future, without a follow-through, will lead to unsupportive thoughts, which in turn will lead to a “why bother” attitude.

3rd – The Probable, Almost Certain (Expected) Future: This is where we keep doing the same thing over and over.  We can, with almost with 100% certainty, predict our future.  There’s no clairvoyance here, it simply – keep doing what you’ve always done and you keep getting what you’ve always got.

This type of future is created by ‘unconsciously’ going through life…not aware and not caring to any degree.

Here’s the scary thing….the probable, almost certain future is always at play…unless we consciously and with purpose, created a new future for ourselves and others.  This is the 4th Future…your Vision.

How do we go about consciously and with purpose, created a new future for ourselves and others?  This sounds very much like The Future We Plan For.

First you must decide on exactly what you want. For many, this is easier said then done.  For many they have an idea…a concept of what they want, i.e. a house on a lake, be healthy, a good relationship, no financial worries.

All of these sound pretty good right?

The problem is that they are:

  1. Not specific
  2. Created from the consciousness mind

The first step in creating a new future for yourself and others is to see, feel, hear, taste and smell your future. The only way to do this by connecting and communicating with Higher Consciousness AND your subconsciousness mind.

Remember, your subconsciousness mind is the goal getter.  So what ever beliefs, values, memories and experiences you have stored there will affect your path and your future.  By establishing rapport with your subconsciousness mind you’ll be able to clear away any limiting aspects that are preventing you from living your 4th Future…your Vision.

Once the static and noise have been removed, you’ll now have a clear connection between your consciousness and subconsciousness mind and can communicate with it to get your 4th Future…your Vision.

This Vision is delivered to your subconsciousness mind via your Higher Consciousness.

Is this all starting to make sense now?

Your consciousness mind provides the “What to do” (actions). Your subconsciousness mind provides the “How to do” (your Mission) and your Higher Consciousness provides the “Why to do” (your Vision)

Your consciousness mind communicates with your subconsciousness mind and you subconsciousness communicates with your Higher Consciousness. If you’re operating only from one “mind” (your then out of your mind) or if the communication channels are clogged, you’ll be creating one of the three futures described above.

When you clear the communications channels, establish rapport with your subconsciousness mind and open up to your Higher Consciousness you’ll then be able to create your 4th Future…The Future of Fulfillment…Your Vision!

The 2nd Passages is designed to do just this…remove block, get clarity and develop an action plan for you to create your 4th Future! Contact Me if you’d like more information on The 2nd Passage and how it will change your life….forever!

Please let me know your thoughts in the comment section below.

1891 Sioux Ghost Dance. Ghost Dances influence...

Image via Wikipedia

In August of 2004 in Redmond, OR. (located just outside of Bend), I participated in a awakening sacred Lakota ritual and tradition, the Spirit Dance, it was formally  known as The Ghost Dance.   The land was dry and we were surrounded by beautiful Junipers tress, desert sage, rainbows and eagles.  The fours clans that started the dance three years ago had grown in size and now there were about 45 dancers this year and about 50+ supporters.  People came from France, Austria, Mexico, Norway and the US.  The energy was especially “good” that year with many of the dancer participating for the first time.

A Brief History of the Ghost Dance

There have been references to the Ghost dance as far back as the white man has been on Turtle Island.  The Ghost dance as we know it today started about the Mid. 1800’s.  Tavibo Translated (white man) a Native American of the Paiute people emerged among them around 1869 as a prophet and visionary.  Tvibo had gone into the mountains and had a vision in which he was told that the Paiute situation would relieved by an earthquake. The earth would open up and consume the white people.  By most accounts he died in 1870, he left a sin named Wovoka (the cutter) who was about 14 years of age.  At this time Wovoka was sent to live with work for a scotch-English family of David Wilson, in the Walker River reign of Nevada near the town of Yerington.  During this time he acquired the name Jack Wilson.  At age twenty he married Tumm, also know as Mary Wilson.  They raised two daughters.

The turning point in Wovoka’s life came in late December of 1888 when Wovoka was suffering from scarlet fever.  He went into a coma for a period of two days.  One observer said “his body was stiff as a board.”  On Sunday January 1, 1889 he sat straight up in bed and announced he had a vision, this corresponded with a total eclipse of the sun.  The Paiute people credited him with bringing back the sun.  Wovoka was already respected for his command of the weather.

His vision of the Ghost Dance brought native people from far and wide to hear his message he spoke of honesty, the importance of hard work, nonviolence and of interracial harmony.  The return of the old ways and the whites would vanish from the earth.  Most of the plains Indians embraced the Ghost Dance, Paiute, Aarpaho, Shoshone, Cheyenne, Comanche and Apache to name a few.

Wovoka was also reported to visit the Northwest, Oregon and Washington and work with the Shaker and Dreamer religions.  To say that the new Ghost Dance was a religion was wide spread and growing fast is an understatement.

The most dynamic evidence of Wovoka’s impact was with the Lakota people.  Short Bull and Kicking Bear returned from Nevada with Ghost Dance shirts, which would make warriors invulnerable to injury.  Sitting Bull was well as others accepted this assurance. The conditions were ideal for a message of deliverance in the badlands.  The buffalo would return, the whites would vanish, and the old ways would return.  All they had to do was Ghost Dance.

This set up the slaughter at Wounded Knee.  Sitting Bull was killed on December 15, 1890, than on December 29, 470 soldiers confronted a seriously ill Big Foot and his people on their way to surrender.  Over 290 Native Americans many of them women and children were killed.  Many people said Wovoka and the Ghost dance faded away in the years after Wounded Knee.  In fact Wovoka was highly revered until his death on September 29, 1932.

To this day Wovoka is honored as a prophet and the founder of the Ghost Dance as we known it today.  Historian L.G. Moses describes Wovoka as “one of the most significant holy men to emerge among the Indians of North America.”  Michael Hittman asserts that the key elements of “the great revelation” remain “honesty, the importance of hard work, the necessity of nonviolence, and the imperative of racial harmony.”

The Ghost Dance in the late 1800’s was the fastest growing religion on record.  It is to this day, the glue, if you will that bounds the Native peoples together like no other event in known history.

The Sprit Dance

Know Kam Lau Nightcahse has been called to continue this tradition.  Kam Lau Nightchase is a recognized teacher of the spiritual tradition of the Lakota as well as Sun Dance Chief who has been a Sun Dancer for over 25 years.  He is a direct descendant of a long linage of renowned Lakota chiefs.  Kam has traveled the world sharing his medicine and teachings

The Ghost Dance was “renamed” to disassociate with “negative” affects of the past and to bring a healing energy to this scared dance.

Preparation for the dance will take its form as those are choosing dance come together.  There will be lodges, meditation, Vision Quest and prayer.

The dance itself is a 4-day dance that goes 24 hours during those four days.  This does mean that the dancers will dance for four days straight with no rest, although all dancers are encouraged to dance as much as they are able to dance. All dancers will start and end the dance together.  During the dance specific songs, chants and drumming took place and these did continue for 24 hours for the four days.

It was wondering to fall asleep to meditative sounds of the drums and songs…the dreams helped each dancer with their “purpose.” Often a dancer would collapse into vision during the dance and their Vision was unique to their place in life at that time.

Male dancers wore shirts of specific pattern and women dancers wore dresses of specific pattern.  Each dancer decorated these garments with the design of their own vision.  These designs represented the dancer, his/her heritage or ancestry as well as be symbols that represent the dancer’s Spirit Animals, guides, and/or teachers.

The focusing of energy, both physical and spiritual, was a key element of this preparation.  In that way, dancers paid attention to their diets and make changes necessary to aid their preparation. Dancers abstained from drugs, alcohol and sex for one month prior to the dance, again as a way of focusing ones energy.

Given the energy that we wished to create at this dance, we worked in preparation to release ourselves of the “negative” and to arrive to the dance in a spirit of light.  This preparation required a commitment to let go of sadness, anger, jealousy, judgment and the like.  The preparation required a commitment to embrace joy and to become the child again in our lives.  Dancers and Supporter alike were asked to prepare in this way as the energy that the Supports created ‘around’ the dance needed to match the energy that we created in the dance.

There were sweat lodges available during the dance for dancers needing to sweat and areas in the arbor surrounding the dance circle for dancers to rest.  Dancers fasted during the entire dance ceremony.  Dancers were allowed to drink water to sustain their energy during their breaks from dancing.

It was the vision of this dance that we were calling on the Ancestors to come and to help us.  Help us through difficult times. Help us to usher in the transition from this time to the coming time. Help us to heal the planet and all our relations.  The dance is intended to be an on-going ceremony.

The Sprit Dance was and still is truly a dance for our lives and times.  It is a dance for our children and for the coming generations.  The dance, as all ceremony, is a prayer and this prayer is for the healing of the hearts.

The entire ceremony was filled with joy, love and happiness.  It was colorful and majestic and the air was thick with healing intentions and prayers.   There was a formal entrance observance, with a pipe ceremony and a formal closing ceremony as well.

My experience with the Spirit Dance was life shifting and helped lead me to the path I am on now….helping others find their Vision, Mission and Purpose in life.  When a person connects with their purpose they tap into their personal power and can then achieve great personal growth, which in turn assists them with their personal success…how ever they define “success.”

I would to think Mike Masterson the leader of the Beaver Clan (that I was proud to be member of) and Kam Lau Nightchase for accepting me into this scared hoop and experience one of the most amazing events in my life.

What does it mean to be a good communicator? Does it mean that the message you transmit reaches its mark or personal successintended recipient? Does it mean that the recipient understands the message when they receive it? Communicating is often thought about in terms of the clarity in which a message is transmitted. Yet we are so often part of moments in our day where the message that is transmitted leaves us with uncertainty about its meaning.

In NLP there is presupposition that the states “The meaning of the communication is the response you get.” Our personal success absolutely depends on the communication being  received and responded to the way we intended.

Consider this situation. A consultant is called in to resolve a conflict between two employees. The employees sit side by side in the office they work together in. At some stage between these two people, some communication transmitted was not received very well. Someone said something the other person didn‘t like. They felt hurt and thus the break down of their relationship began. When the consultant was called in, the “problem” was identified as two people who have personality clashes and who can‘t communicate. The consultant was told that the communication between these two people had now resorted to email only, even though they physically sit side by side. They never speak to each other, they just email.

Sound familiar?

Now for some of us we might find this hard to believe but it happens more often than perhaps we realize. Something is said, it is interpreted and then a response follows…or perhaps a ‘reaction’.  You know the difference between and response and a reaction don’t you?  About 10 seconds :-)

Let‘s deconstruct this process of communication. Let‘s take the transmitter. Their world looks a particular way through their eyes. They use language to reflect the way they see their world. This language is their language expressed with their emotions. This language is expressed based on where they are at in their life at that precise moment in time. Their message travels to the recipient. The recipient has a different world, different language, and different emotions. As the message is being sent, it depends entirely on its meaning as to how the recipient chooses to understand it.

The differences in perception are based on each individual’s “filters”, i.e. beliefs, values, meta-programs, experiences, etc.   When we are not aware or unconsciousness of these filters we basically give away our personal power to the other person, at least during the communication.

Let‘s look at another example. One day Thomas is feeling tired and over worked. He is not feeling particularly fantastic about himself and is a little vulnerable. However no one in Thomas‘s world knows this except Thomas. Thomas goes to work and sits beside Alex. Alex has just found out that his best friend has been hurt in a car accident. He is really upset and finding it hard to concentrate on his work. It is at this point in time the Thomas communicates or transmits a message to Alex. Thomas asks Alex for a report that he needs with a tone in his voice that reflects his tiredness. He sounds impatient when asking for the report. Alex hears this impatience and cannot believe that Thomas is asking him for something in that way especially as he is worrying about his friend. He feels that the request with that tone sounds like he hasn‘t been working hard.

You can nearly see the explosion of fireworks between these two people. It‘s a bit like watching two missiles charging towards each other ready to hit…both have lost their personal power.

Both Alex and Thomas don‘t know how the other person is feeling. Their own needs override what is going on outside of them, in their environment. If neither person has the inner strength and takes the time to check in with each other, to get clarity around the tone of the message or how it was received, then this moment grows. The next message is built on the first message. A judgment (a mind read) is made now that clouds each message. A perception of each communicator is made. It stays with them and grows daily until they have each created a complete profile of the other person. They view the other person through this profile that they alone have created.

The only way to change the profile or communication occurring between these two people is for one of them to have the mindset to want to change it. Otherwise it will never change. The desire to improve their workplace environment must be so great that it forces them to look for ways to improve a situation. Some people will never use their mental strength to look for a solution, because in looking for a solution we have to look at both perspectives and understand what has occurred. It means looking at the role we play in this communication/relationship…taking personal responsibility. For some this is too threatening and they choose to leave the workplace instead. However their way of communicating goes with them. They will come across this again where ever they work.

This scenario is not about two people who have personality clashes, as they don‘t even know each other that well or where each other is at. This is not about people who can‘t communicate. They are both able to use language. This scenario is about two people who do not understand that when someone speaks, the message is about where the speaker is at. When someone hears a message, the recipient, the way in which they hear it depends on where they are at.

So let‘s go back and deconstruct this process of communication. If we always recognize that a message is based on the transmitter‘s world, judgments, perceptions, etc, then we will check in to ask questions about that world to get clarity about the message. We will also make sure that both the transmitter and the recipient understand the meaning of a message. As an example, let‘s look at the following message. “I meditate every day” says Thomas. Alex says, “Well done this is fantastic. Or he may respond with, “What do you do to meditate or what do you mean by meditate everyday? Thomas says, “I stop in the middle of my day and think about all the tasks I still need to do and list them.” This short moment of communication has now clarified what meditation means to Thomas and Alex understands this meaning now too. Alex may have had a completely different understanding of meditation. For Alex it may have meant sitting quietly in a space and following his rhythm of breathing for 15 minutes.

Let‘s take another example. You are watching the television and a reporter states that a leading company has just announced that over the next three years, interest rates are going to increase by 25%. Your immediate response may be to panic and think about what this means given you have a mortgage or you might think first about this transmitter of this message. You might ask yourself who is the leading company and in what are they leading? What is the context in which this message is being made? Until you get clarity on the message then it is best not to make assumptions about it.

We are constantly communicating, i.e. our body language, the words we speak, the way, then tone and the tremble in which we say them and now a days, we communicate more via e-mail, IM, Twitter and other social media.  To communicate effectively we need to use a mindset of excellence and take into consideration not just what we say when we communicate, but how and with what medium as we using….this ‘pause’ in consideration will take some mental strength at first, and when you become a proficient communicator because of it you will experience personal growth.

Nest week I’ll continue with some applications and deeper understanding of communicating.

Do we really have free will?Warrior Mind Podcast

Joe Dispenza – Evolve Your Brain and Eldon Taylor – Mind Programming would argue that we don’t…or at least we don’t exercise our free will

We have been programmed…er…educated by teachers, parents, religion, media, peers and friends.

Most of us only make choices on what we know.  We are selecting from a multipart question. i.e. should I do A, B or C today?

If we make choices based ONLY on what new know is that really free will?

Cultural Dictionary Definition of Free Will

The ability to choose, think, and act voluntarily. For many philosophers, to believe in free will is to believe that human beings can be the authors of their own actions and to reject the idea that human actions are determined by external conditions or fate. ( See determinism, fatalism, and predestination.)”

When we use our mental strength and to really start to exercise our free will we will be in our personal power and have the ability for consistent personal success and  peak personal performance.

Here’s today podcast on free will:

In Acknowledging for Personal Growth – Part I, I discussed the difference between acknowledging and encouraging as personal successwell as when we acknowledge others we are also recognizing that which is in ourselves.

Before I move on to Part II and other aspects of acknowledging, I’d like to thank my coaching school, ICA, for the support and much of the information about ‘Acknowledging.’

Celebration

Celebrating means giving yourself permission to stop for a moment and enjoy what you already have accomplished. It provides the opportunity to stop and take a look back in time and savor the moment. It also provides a chance to review what worked and what did not work. What you want to do more of in your life and what actions you will not repeat in the future. This is a time to acknowledge your achievement and personal success and to celebrate them.

Many of us are not in the habit of celebrating…at least, not the small things in life. Most people usually celebrate special events and major accomplishments. However, it is worth celebrating the small steps along the way that help us reach our major personal goals in life. Celebration is important because it gives us time to reflect on our accomplishments, our personal performance and to acknowledge our achievements; this in turn provides a sense of personal growth.

The art of celebrating also provides the opportunity for others the chance to participate in you personal performance, and allowing them to acknowledge us for what we have done. It also provides an opportunity for us to acknowledge the people in our lives who have supported and assisted us in reaching our personal goals and dreams. Hardly ever does anyone achieve something by themselves. An all-important step in goal setting that is sometimes overlooked is the need for celebration. When setting goals, one of the most powerful questions to ask yourself is: “How will I celebrate the achievement of this particular goal?

Creating structures for celebration builds in an automatic way to reward and reflect on the accomplishment(s). To support yourself, get into the habit of building in a structure for celebrating. This helps reinforce the concept of taking time to think about and enjoy the progress.

Ways that we can celebrate:

  • Buy something special, like one beautiful rose or some rich chocolate or a new power tool (that was for the guys)
  • Indulge in a treat that you have not experienced in a long time.
  • Take a bubble bath while sipping a favorite beverage…yes guys…you should try this too!
  • Get a massage at a local spa.
  • Take a trip to a favorite place.
  • Keep a gratitude journal.

Ways that we can celebrate in a work environment:

  • Take the team to see a sporting event.
  • Host a team building exercise
  • Keep a gratitude list on the lunch room wall
  • Make celebration a permanent agenda item for meetings.
  • Start with celebration before launching into problems or challenges.
  • Bring in some beautiful flowers to celebrate your success.

Celebration is so individual in its expression. Find out what it means to celebrate for each of your friends. What are they grateful for and how do they celebrate their achievements? Develop your own celebration list that will increase your sense of personal power and personal growth. This list can then serve as a way to create more celebrations as well as remove the overwhelming feeling from trying to think of something immediately.

Contemplation

  • What difference would it make in your life, over the next five years, if you received 50 percent more acknowledgment than you do today?
  • Think of a time in your life when you have been acknowledged for your personal performance…no matter the outcome, how did it make you feel?
  • Describe what life feels like when we make efforts without acknowledgment?
  • What can you celebrate right now?

Application

In my personal coaching, acknowledgment comes after my client’s have taken action. However acknowledgment is not just about the action, it is about who my client’s are ‘being’ while they are taking action. I acknowledge my client’s for their values and their purpose and not just their activity. I cheer them on, support them to take the next step with courage and mental strength, and help them to see what they did to get their results.

I don’t always acknowledge what is “successful.” Many times some of the best lessons come from what did not work out well, when it did not turn out to be exactly the way my client’s wanted it. As a personal coach, I then acknowledge what action they took, what lessons were learned and how it will now support them in their personal growth and personal development. This means that I acknowledge all the steps my client’s make from beginning to end.

As a point of reference, it’s important when acknowledging someone, to avoid the word “but” after saying something wonderful to them. For example, “that was great, but…” The word “but” in a sentence has a tendency to negate what was said before it.

When acknowledging, I want my client’s to feel good about what they did even if it did not produce the desired result. I emphasize the experience to learn from it in order to grow and improve upon it next time.

Remember, this is a process and not everyone is going to go out and get it right the first time. It takes time and this is why acknowledgment is so important because it supports others to learn and develop further. For me, it helps my client’s understand what aspects of what they did worked.

Holding a Vision

Part of holding a vision is also reminding my client’s of how far they have come. A powerful strategy I use for holding their vision is to have them look into their past to recall experiences they have had which seemed impossible but became possible. When we hold a vision for our clients we say things like:

  • What evidence do you have to prove to yourself that you can do this?
  • Tell me what happened when you were challenged with reaching for your personal goals (that they achieved)?

As a life coach, I help turn my client’s vision into reality, their dreams into an achievement and their personal goals into an accomplishment. Encouragement leads them to persistence and attainment.

You also can “coach” effectively by just using acknowledgement, encouragement, and celebration. If you simply help someone see and appreciate their strengths you will empower them to do better and reach for their own peak performance. If you acknowledge them when they are operating at their best, then you allow their “best self” to grow. When you encourage them at moments of self-doubt you will drive this doubt away. To focus on what is good in their life right now and what they are doing right will often produce significant results irrespective of other techniques.

Reflection

  • What would your life look like if you acknowledge yourself more often?
  • What would other’s lives look like if you acknowledge them more often?

Achieving peak personal performance and creating personal power begins with a mental strength mindset and personal growthempowering beliefs.  Reaching your personal goals starts in the mind and finishes with peak performance…taking massive action.

This is one in a series of mental strength life coaching tips to help start your week of strong so that you can reach your personal goals and personal success.

I take one subject and run though a brief overview of it, then ask some very direct questions.  The intention of these virtual sessions is for you to write the questions in your success journal and then reflect on them and write your answers and thoughts in your journal.

These series of posts are for YOU!  If I’m not able to coach you personally one-on-one, I want you to at least get the benefit of “virtual” coaching.

Objective of this Mental Strength Tip:

To determine you belief’s about conflict see if you perceive any potential for personal growth in situations were conflict occurs.

Let’s Get Started:

Dictionary.com states ‘conflict’ as “a state of opposition between ideas, interests, etc; disagreement or controversy” and “a mental struggle arising from opposing demands or impulses.”

Let me ask you…how often does conflict present itself in your daily actives?  As a student in mental strength can you see how, by the second definition above, that conflict provides an opportunity to exercising your mental strength?

Questions to Uncover Beliefs about Mental Strength Thinking:

  • What roles has conflict played in your achievement of personal goals?
  • Do you believe there are times when conflict can be positive?
  • Can you remember a time when conflict accelerated your personal growth?

Unsupportive Beliefs about Conflict

  • Conflict makes me uncomfortable
  • Conflict is negative
  • Avoid conflict at all costs

Mental Strength Beliefs about Conflict

  • Conflict catapults personal growth
  • Conflict makes me think and contemplate
  • Conflict creates dialogue between individuals and team members

Outrageous Questions:

  • Why do avoid or area afraid of conflict?
  • What’s the worst thing that can happen in conflict?
  • Why are you offended by someone with an opposing view?

Reflective Questions:

  • Is there a possibility that conflicting opinions might accelerate growth?
  • How can I help you embrace conflict as a catalyst for positive change?
  • Would you be willing to purposely create conflict to infuse energy into a longstanding problem?

Mental Strength Coaching:

To be mentally strong is to embracing conflict a bit more every day… even though many of us have been taught to void it all costs.  Remember that the average personal loves to be comfortable, and conflict terrifies them.

I really like the definition of conflict as a mental struggle.  This fits SO well into the concept and practice of mental strength. In order to get stronger (at anything) there must be a “struggle” of some kind.  It’s up to you to label the struggle or conflict as empowering or disempowering.

Final Thought

Conflict doesn’t always mean yelling and screaming.  Conflict is a gap between two perceived different views.  It’s the job of the mental strength practitioner to recognize this gap and develop the techniques to bridge the gap…this can be thought of a negotiations or resolution.

In any case, you can get good at resolving conflict unless you face conflict.  This is one of the cornerstones to personal growth, a mindset to face your fears head on.
