Reaching your personal goals and personal success starts in your mind…and finishes with taking inspired and massive action.

This is one in a series of virtual personal coaching and mental strength tips to help kick-start your week.  It is intended to create self-empowerment and inspire you to take action so that you can reach your personal goals and personal success.

I take one mental strength tips and run though a brief overview of it, then ask some very direct coaching questions.  The intention of this virtual personal coaching session is for you to write and answer these questions in your success journal and then reflect on them to gain insight on yourself, your dreams and what’s holding you back.

These series of posts are for YOU!

Objective of this Mental Strength Tip:

To help you understand risk taking is a mental strength quality to be embraced rather than feared.

Let’s Get Started:

Risk taking is an integral part of business and life, but so few people know how to manage it properly.  The word risk has a slightly negative connotation to it — it implies danger, tension, and possible loss.  But risk also has a positive side, the chance of hitting a big win, of getting more on the back side than you invest on the front side.

Questions to Uncover Beliefs about Mental Strength Thinking:

  • What does risk taking mean to you?
  • Has risk taking been more positive or negative for you?
  • What are the up and downsides of taking risks?

Unsupportive Beliefs about Risk Taking

  • Risk is scary.
  • Risk is dangerous.
  • Risk is a threat to my security and peace of mind.

Mental Strength Beliefs about Risk Taking

  • Embracing risk make me more secure.
  • Risk taking is exciting.
  • Risk taking is fun.

Outrageous Questions:

  • What risks scare you the most?
  • How could you become a better risk taker?
  • If you took more risks would be have more personal success?

Reflective Questions:

  • On a scale of 1-9, 9 being biggest, where do you rate as a risk taker?
  • Where would your family and friends rate you on the same scale?
  • How can I support you in building the mental strength skill of risk taking?

Mental Strength Coaching:

Remember, most people are taught from childhood to avoid risks.  This play it safe philosophy is usually reinforced through your adulthood.

Like most deeply rooted beliefs and philosophies, making even small increments of change is going to take time and patience.

Over time you will begin to see the benefits of risk taking and eventually realize that sustainable personal success is impossible without it.

Final Thought

Embracing the belief that risk taking is exciting, fun and full of adventure will be one of your greatest challenges, but once you have made the change, you will never be the same.

Embracing calculated risk taking is one of the most important aspects of a mental strength mindset.

“People will rise to meet seemingly insurmountable obstacles and challenges if they understand the worthiness of the personal sacrifices and effort. Supporting that understanding must be mentors who provide leadership; without both ingredients, a cause will go unrealized and a mission is likely to fail.” — Glenn R. Jones
