Freedom from Fear: Warrior Mind Podcast #289

Over four years and going strong!  With over 300,000 downloads from over 9 countries and 5 continents’…. this is freedom from fearthe Warrior Mind Podcast.

In this episode of the Warrior Mind Podcast I am going to talk about fear, but more importantly freedom from fear.

When learning about freedom from fear, you might not expect to find answers in the Harvard Business Review. However, it contained an article that touched on an exceptionally written passage from a Joseph Heller novel. The narrator in the story, Bob Slocum, who is a middling executive from a company with no name, is going insane over the decisions going on behind his back that could cost him his career.

In one section of the book, the narrator states, “In the office in which I work there are five people of whom I am afraid. Each of these five people is afraid of four people (excluding overlaps), for a total of twenty, and each of these twenty people is afraid of six people, making a total of one hundred and twenty people who are feared by at least one person.” In this case, the business he works for is always in a pyramid of panic that is ready to all crumble at a moment’s notice. As we look at freedom from fear, this is important to remember.

develop the mental strength of a warrior

Fear is perhaps the toughest emotion we face as humans. The reason is that while we can break free from other emotions, it is fear that haunts us. It can paralyze us so that we are unable to accomplish anything. As time passes by, we find that we are unable to do a lot of things and we ultimately are left making decisions that force us to confront the experiences of the past. After all, these circumstances cloud our mind, but they do not to be in control. When we break away from these negative thoughts from the past we can achieve freedom from fear.

We survived the first time we faced this fear and will continue to do so each time we do. It is recognizing this fear and confronting it and realizing it doesn’t define us or any portion of our lives. As you realistically look at all the different things you have faced time and time again, you’ll realize you do have some internal power. It is that power you can tap into when fear approaches you and you can confront it and work past it.
